I am considering buying a lifetime Fishing / Hunting license. Has anyone ever bought one or both? Seams like the price of a license keeps going up over the years. I keep rolling it around trying to figure out if it is worth the $600 or $1000. Being they renew on September 1 I have forgot to buy my license before. This way I will always be covered. Any thoughts are appreciated....

Looking back, I should have bought one when I was younger. I've already told my sons it would be a great investment.

If you're fairly young - go for it. If not, just do the math - like some of us have to...

Me to me to me damn it too
Back when they first came out you could buy the Combo for about $200 off buying both individually. Today at age 62...nope I'm too far past the deal except to make a donation to TP&W. But if I was under 40 I'd buy the Fishinjg/Hunting Combo in a heartbeat. Just remember you still have to buy the Stamps too I think. I know you still have to buy the Federal Stamps for sure.

I printed out the forms for the lifetime license and it says All lifetime license holders, regardless of when their license was purchased, are exempt from buying state stamps. This exemption does not include the Federal Duck stamp. If the resident buys a lifetime license and moves to another state, the license will still be valid when holder returns to Texas to hunt or fish.

i think you still have to remember to get one every year after Aug 31st. that way you will get the new tags. it wont cost you anything, but they have to print it out.

Yeah you have to remember to get your tags. I never have a problem with things i need tags for like turkey or deer. my problem is when i fish or when i hunt a non tag animal.

I broke down and bought a lifetime combo this license year...one grand. I figured it would pay for itself in 13-15 years if not sooner.

..oh and this years tags were mailed to me a few days before 9/1.

After that TPWD sends a card to redeem your tags or you can just give your DL number.

thats kinda what I have been figuring. 13- 15 years or less. In 15 years a combo License might cost $100 a year. The more they raise the License for both the faster I will make my money back.

I have had mine for 10years and I just bought my wife her's this year as a birthday present. money well spent. The only tag you have to ever buy is the Federal Duck stamp. If you got the money do it and do it now because they can go up next year, you never know.

This is something I have been looking at as well. Being mid 30's it is something I am sure will pay off in time.
ALSO, while I never expect to move outside of Texas, it is valid even if you take up residency in another state (as you stated). Even if I have to move to another state for work, I can come back to Texas and hunt without paying the 'non-resident' price.

I think that I have made my mind up now. Time to buy.

Shawn

I bought my stepson a lifetime combo last year, at 38, I think it would be worth if for me to by one for myself next year. Like it was said before, it will pay for itself.

What it says on this paperwork is that you obtain your tags by taking the card to any License sales location in Texas or call the 1-800 number. Says the card is valid for hunting and fishing except for species that require tags. It also says that all lifetime license holders are exempt from state stamps. But the Excemption does not include the Federal Duck Stamp. So you still have to buy your Duck Stamp.

My parents for my 16th birthday bought me an Oklahoma Lifetime Combo it was $400 back then and it is $750 now. It has been great since I moved to TX 10years ago I can still hunt and fish in OK for free. I even get to be placed in their drawn hunts like a resident and if drawn there are no fees for lifetime holders. I am going this weekend for the OK muzzleloader opener, I wouldn't be able to afford to hunt with my Dad up on his place if I didn't have the OK Lifetime.

I keep telling myself to buy a TX Lifetime too but haven't yet. I am also hearing rumors that the TX Lifetime might be going up to $1500 soon for a combo.

I bough a lifetime combo about 7-8 years ago. The only stamp I have to buy is the federal duck stamp. You can get your tags from anyone that sells hunting/fishing licence (wal-mart, academy etc). You can even get them by mail, just have to fill-out a Hipp cert and send it in. It was $1000 for the combo when I bought mine.

I plan on buying the hunting lifetime license next season.

Knowing my luck they will go up from the $600 they are now!
