Don't need the job, hell yeah quit. I have a good friend of mine that takes all of deer season off, and his boss keeps taking him back after the new year.

Not at all, I almost got fired years ago for taking off for a deer hunt. They decided to punish me when I got back by giving me another 7 days off with no pay. Did that make any sense?

That will be a hard one for people to answer as everyones circumstances are different. You indicate you have 2 jobs and don't really need or like the one you quit. If that is true and you can make your living on the job you kept, then sounds like it might have been something you wanted to do anyways. Also, you don't say but a single man can do things a married man can't. Sounds like you might be single. Otherwise, you'd probably be dead as most wives would kill a husband that quit a job to go hunting! Earl

big difference between a job and a career. sounds like that one fell into the job phase for you.
besides, a place that valued you would not be too likely to scheme while you are gone.
i would not quit my current job to hunt, but then again, i would likely never have a conflict

Be sure to pass on the information of the job you quit to someone that is out of a job.

I'd NEVER have a job I didn't "need" (unless it involved something like a topless bar). And in the past I've never stayed at a job I didn't "like", so yes I would have done the same thing.

Some folks can't just run out and get another job. It's good that you had the option and I have had the circumstance where I faced that decision and went on the hunting trip but the boss took me back with out issue.
Good boss.

In my field, there are not a lot of jobs in Austin. There is no way I could tell my boss to shove it, and then quit. (Luckily, our CEO is a HUGE hunter) If I did, I'd be at Best Buy or McDonald's flipping burgers. Nothing wrong with that, but I didn't get my BME degree to do that, and I certainly don't want to have to move to North Carolina, Boston, or California if I can stay in Austin.
So no, I wouldn't have done that. But it sounds like you have it figured out and already have a job lined up. More power to you. If I could just go out the next week and find a job to my liking, I probably would tell them where they could cram their job.

Nope, hunting isn't a priority in my life, I do like it though, but not enough to quit a job or walk-out on one. Where I work and have for the past 23 years, they cover us with good health benefits, vacation and sick leave and with my past illnesses, leaving this place of employment, not many others would cover you on health insurances and benefits. Not worth it to me.

My only thought with this is if you didn't need the job that bad, and you didn't like it, then why did you ever have it in the first place? As for myself I have had to some jobs I didn't like but it was because I needed the money that I took it. I guess it just depends on the situation.
It would have to be a pretty low down job for me to quit something for deer season. Hunting can be done in Texas any time of year. But finding a job(for a lot of people) is pretty darn hard right now.
Plus that doesn't look to good in the employers eyes. I guess if it was something you didn't want to put on a resume in the first place or care to use someone there as a reference. Word can get around quick in certain circles and if a worker is known to just quit stuff, that might come back and bite you hard in the arse later on.

I have never quit for hunting.... yet, but that day is coming soon.
I have quit jobs before. Quit the sheriff's office at 215am once... went by the house, gathered uni's and badges, piled them on the sheriff's desk.... got a ride home...
Quit the grain elevator, told them I was not going to clean that lift pit again by myself....he told me that was what I was doing after lunch.... didn't come back.
I have a unique skill set and certification that allows me to find a job if need be, so it gives me a little more lee-way when dealing with problems like this
