OK, here's the question. I took my son out to the deer lease to refill the feeder etc. Well, we didn't bring the ground blind and just set up next to some mesquite trees. The deer came from a totally different direction than I was expecting, they saw us, couldn't make out exactly what we were (even though we were getting the Mickey Mouse treatment) but they must have winded us or something because they suddenly "snorted and blew" and ran off.
Here's the question. At the feeder when we arrive was a whole covey of quail. Also, on the way out the gate, we saw another covey of quail running along the ground. All of this is within, say 300 yards of the feeder.
Question: Should I go ahead and hunt the quail or wait till I get my deer? What are your thoughts on this matter?
Be kind with your words, thankful to your Creator and generous with the meat from your hunt.

It's time to hunt DEER! There will be plenty of time for quail and duck hunting later on!

I don't like quail hunting, especially with dogs, until much later in the season. Maybe you won't spook any deer, but then again...
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Later in the season I'll hunt deer in the morning, eat breakfast, hunt quail in the middle of the day, then deer in the evening.
Just make sure to hunt quail in a different part of the ranch.
It helps to spread some milo on the roads after your morning hunt as well.

Question: Should I go ahead and hunt the quail or wait till I get my deer? What are your thoughts on this matter? I say do what ever makes you happy. Just because you bust a few quail, the deer aren't going anywhere.
