What does everyone do to get ready, on the Friday before opening day? Travel?, feed?, scout?, drink? what?

An hour and 15 minutes driving time with the side trip to Lowake for dinner. Then to our place and a good nights sleep.

I will be there about 445, loaded up (gear not beer) by 5 and in one of the stands...watch and wait...would kill a hog or predator if they were present that evening... not scared of the gun shots, lord knows they hear that year around...

Big pot of chili to be made when I get back to camp... sit by the fire, and dream of the monsters created by the Anter restrictions the last few years...

I have an hour drive, figure I'll be there around noonish to finalize camp cleanup. Play some poker, drink some beer, and get ready for the morning.

Lots of activity out there this past week, makes me wonder if I should not have already started hunting. Bucks are chasing does!

Drop the daughter off at school Friday morning, drive 5.5 hours to the Lease in Menard County, stop in mason to eat mexican food, got to lease, put out sweet feed, have a crown and coke and lay there and try and go to sleep until i finally do, which will seem like an hour before the alarm goes off, but it won't matter...

4.5 hour drive, fill fresh water in camper, put charger on 2 four wheelers, build a fire, Bill Miller's bup of Wellers and DP with a bowl of chili, sleep. Wake up, shoot monster buck.

Done.

I have to work until 5:00 Friday. Scram home, load all the stuff, the wife, and the kids, then head a little over 3 hours out to the ranch. By the time the wife is finally ready to go and we grab some dinner, we'll probably pull up around 11PM. I'll unload, hang my clothes on the clothes line out back, and hit the rack. I'll hunt the morning and evening hunts by myself, and I'll take my 5yr old on another stand for the mid-day hunts (we'll take lunch and eat in the stand while "looking for deer"). I put plenty of games and will put a couple of movies on the iPod Touch to help him pass the time. Chances of seeing deer with him on the stand are slim, but the kid is so pumped to get to hunt with Daddy, he can't hardly stand it.

I have a 5 hour drive from El Paso to Big Lake. I'll have everything packed up and ready to go before I head to the field on Thursday. Then hopefully slip off as early as I can Friday.

My son and I are going out on Wednesday and sling sweet feed everywhere . I will work friday until my son gets there at about 1:00 . We will travel to the lease that is 1 hour away and unload the wheelers , then check into the hotel , then we will find a good place to eat and then probably drink the evening away. Yahoo - then its on !!
Good luck to all and be safe !

I'm closing on some property at 2:00, driving to the place after I'm done, setting a feeder and a couple of cameras and then sitting with the wife and watching to see if anything comes out until dusk. Driving 2 hours back to Houston that evening, and then coming back on Sunday.

Not really hunting the property this year. Observing more than anything to see what's there.

WILL ARRIVED AT THE DEER LEASE ABOUT 10:30 AM.FRIDAY. UNLOAD AND GET EVERYTHING SET UP. PUT TWO BONELESS PORK LIONS ON THE SMOKER AND PUT ON A CROCKPOT OF BEANS. (WE WENT OUT LAST WEEKEND AND MADE SURE ALL FEEDERS WERE READY AND FILLED THEM,CHECKED ALL DEER STANDS, ROADS, ECT.) MAY TAKE A SHORT NAP AND THEN GET UP AND BUILD A CAMPFIRE AND DRINK A LITTLE BEER UNTIL EVERYONE ELSE SHOWS UP.

Work until 3 or so. Will already be packed up and will drive about an hour to the lease. Probably will take a few shots with the old 30-06 to make sure its still on the money. Go toss out a bit of corn on the ground for the morning, spreading it well to hopefully keep the hogs from getting all of it. Cook up some steaks, drink cold beer, sit around the fire.
