I was at the check in station this weekend in Oklahoma and a guy rolled in w/ a 16pt buck. Im not sure he knew what he was talking about but he said it was past his prime. This deer had no muscle structure at all. He hog dressed at 109 pnds. I think this deer was yound and really would of made a monster one day. If I guess he would score 140 and probably 2.5 yrs old.

Every situation is different. The tag is for a buck, not a buck that is at least 5 years old with 160 inches.

I hunt in Oklahoma and it is said that only 4% of the bucks taken in Oklahoma are 4.5 or older, In the area I hunt during muzzleloader and rifle you can only take doe on the first and last day of the season.(unless you are on the DMAP program)
Therefore every thing with horns on its head is getting shot.
Another interesting thing in Oklahoma, it is not considered an "antlered/buck" unless it has 3" of horn sticking out of its skull! So you can shoot a button head on opening morning of muzzle loader, wait a day and shoot a 8pt; come rifle season you can do it again and tag out on bucks!
I have even heard some of the local "hunters" around those parts say "if a spike or a fork horn walks out on opening i shoot it and break any extra horn off and sand paper it down below 3"; After all them young bucks is the best eatin any how!"
The game wardens of Oklahoma are for the most part very nice and helpful people but i think their home office of DNR is about 20 years behind.
