We’re at Inks Lake, but the wife loves to see the countryside, and wanted to have a look at Colorado Bend State Park. Only 60 miles, she says, but Ok. So we went through LLano and had lunch at a place near the courthouse. I liked it. Then back on the road through Cherokee and through Bend to the State Park. Not much to see if you aren’t a tent camper, but if you want to get off the beaten path, Colorado Bend SP is your place. Anyhoo, back on the road, and at Bend there was the Bend General Store, and they had ice cream. We needed ice cream. Talking to the guy running the place, the store is also a small venue for singers. Ray Wylie Hubbard will be there Saturday night. Amazing that anybody could even find Bend Texas, but he says the place sells out fast. Dang shame I can’t stick around, but probably couldn’t get two tickets anyway. Bend, Texas…who’d a thunk it?
Any of you guys been there for music?

Great place!!!! My wife and I drew out at CBSP and we stayed there for the hunt. Burgers are really good. As a kid we use to go to Sulphur Springs fishing camp for our family vacation for the week, great fishing. My dad was born and raised about two miles from the store. It's off the beaten path and kind of hope it stays that way.

There are some good places to hike there. Trails aren't necessarily marked all that well but neat stuff to see. Walk the river until you find where a spring comes down and hike up towards the spring.

Cherokee also has a big music festival west of town.

Been there numerous times. Usually a pretty laid back and friendly crowd.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

back in the day before it was a SP, there were several fish camps there that was great fishing for spawning whites late January thru early March ... Lemon Camp and Gorman falls to name a couple I remember. I remember one trip back in the '70s with a couple of HS buddies, loaded up fishing gear, tent, sleeping bags, cooking stuff on 3 motorcycles in late Feb. Beautiful weather, got camp set up, fished to catch dinner, built a fire and fried fish & potatoes in a cast iron skillet, nasty cold wet front blew in, 3 of us in a 2 man pup tent, about froze to death that night. Next morning we packed up and headed home as we weren't prepared for those conditions.

Great story! But glad I wasn’t with you. The weather can really turn on you fast in Texas. Back when I lived in Louisiana, I just don’t remember the weather turning like that, and I was an outside guy.
