I like the painting above the bar. The golf course looked really nice, but we weren’t there for golf. The rooms were comfortable and the food was good. That was a while back though.

Just went last year - wife and me - golf course was awesome as well as the resort and food/bar. Very laid back.

I suggest stopping on your way for a night in Marathon to break the drive up -

That’s what we did, staying at the Gage Hotel in Marathon before going south.

I know a guy that was disappointed. He's got plenty of money but he said the trip was $3K per person for he and his wife plus food and the course was nice but not worth the time, effort, and expense.

I ain't going for sure.

Pass the gravy.

It’s great. I can’t wait to go back. Beautiful course, great lodging, great food and bar. Really cool setting and great staff. The golf course is very nice, scenic views and tough but not super hard. Definitely recommend.

I use to work for the guy who bought it. Super good dude. Always offered it to me, kinda regret never taking him up on it. But I’m not really a golfer.

It is way more than golf - driving through that country was half the fun

Three days, two nights, a couple rounds of golf, and airfare per person. Food and drink extra.

I played the course nine or so years ago. Worth every penny for the greens fee. I played on a weekday. Only other people on the course were a big bachelor party that had flown in.

One of the holes is great. Tee box is on a small mountain/big hill. The green is a couple hundred feet drop. It’s a long count for that first hit and roll.

I also may have intentionally try to slice a drive or two into Mexico.

Highly recommend it!

I guess I’m lucky that I don’t have a jet. We drove through that part of the country. Stayed at Lajitas, but didn’t play golf.

If a guy can afford a jet to take him into Lajitas Intercontinental Airport, he shouldn’t whine about $3000…seems to me.

Driving the trip was very nice. Lots of interesting places to stop. We weren’t in a hurry. And ya better like driving, cause there’s a lot of it.

The best meal on the trip was at Marathon. Really great chicken fried steak and good Margaritas - and they had better been good drinks for the price we paid. Outrageous. Must’ve brought the tequila up from Mexico by pack mule.

Might do the trip again and take the Sprinter Van. And the wife needs a new T shirt from Lajitas, which says (in pink letters) “Lajitas Ladies’ tea society and gun club”.

The best part of Lajitas is Clay Henry. Don’t forget about ol’ Clay

Yeah it is a good drive but wife and I decided to just chill out and enjoy the ride - spent the night in Marathon and then messed around in Alpine and then Terlingua before getting to the resort - great laid back easy trip -

IMO half the fun of going out there is the drive. Pass on going I-10 , go 90 to Del Rio and up thru Langley and Sanderson.

Yeah, we did Alpine (museum) and Marathon. Didn’t spend enough time in Terlingua. After Lajitas, think we did Presidio, then north to Seminole (where she was born) and then to Wink, hoping to see the Roy Orbison museum. The wife’s aunt, one of many, knew Orbison when he was young and lived in Wink, and said he used to come over to her place and sit onto the porch and play his guitar. Said he wasn’t very good looking.

Thanks for the tip on the Lajitas RV park.

We go multiple times a year for guys golf trips. Course is good, but if you’re going to go play, it’s starting to get really hot. We go in April and November. Food is good and beer is cold. If you’re flying in, the runway is good and shuttle service is efficient. I like the place a lot. Go to the pool. There will be some scenery there

The history on how Lajitas came to be is fascinating. Wealthy man ( Steve Smith from Austin) bought the property and dumped millions into it. The plan was to have an out of the way resort to have rich and famous people fly in - his plan was to feature top end bands and singers to preform - Texas Monthly did a big story outlining the whole deal. Well it did not pan out, he went bankrupt, somebody took it over and made it what it is today. Attached is the article and it is fascinating -

Well dang! Texas Monthly wants a subscription to read the entire article
