So is that the shotgun he was wanting to buy anyway?
All he really wanted was something other than his single shot 20 ga for this up coming hunting season, he would have been happy with a 20 ga pump, and thrilled with any auto.
He has not studied all his options, so he really did not have strong feelings on the gun he wanted, I have not studied it either, so I have not had any recommendations for him. He has been shooting the 20 ga range guns in 4H practice which are 391s, and he liked those a lot and has been wanting to try the 12 ga youth 391 they have. I told him if he wants a 391, he better save his money.
I wanted him to buy his next “nice” long-term gun with his own money (12 ga), my thought really was that I would buy him a 20 ga auto, because that will be a hand me down to his little sister, I would not want him to spend his own money on a gun, then have to give it to his little sister. So my thought was to buy a 20 ga auto, that would take care of him this next hunting season, and he could continue to save for his next “grown up” gun.
That 12 ga is still a bit too much gun for him, I’m gonna see what we can do to have it fitted for him, but I’m tempted to buy him a 20 ga auto anyway for this up coming hunting season because 1) I know his little sister will use it one day and 2) that 12 ga may be too much for him to carry with duck hunting, we normally take some pretty big hikes thru mud and slop duck hunting, he needs to be able to hold his own, I'm getting to old to carry his stuff!!
