you can shoot the pen raised year round in texas also.
The dog needs a good intro at first, what I do is have the dog on a checkcord and hold the bird in my hand and wiggle it around get the dog fired up and then let go and let it fly off. Hold the checkcord while the bird is flying off and let pup chase and just stop her at the end of the cord. If she does not chase the first time just repeat until she does. Then you can start letting one wing flap so that she can see it wont hurt her and do the same thing and let the bird go.
You have to be careful with the pen raised birds, those are sometimes easy for the dogs to catch and that is not what you want, you want to dog to think that they can’t catch the bird, that’s what brings out the pointing instinct. If you can get pigeons it will be a lot cheaper and they fly better and won’t get caught.
It’s a slow process, and she is at the right age to really get started. Look into the Perfection Kennels DVD’s, kinda pricey but worth every penny.
