I want to compete with the likes of BuckWear and the private labels offered in Cabellas and BassPro, however they do their manufacturing overseas. I have the contacts and abilities, but I believe the hunting and fishing community would be more inclined to purchase “American Made”. The problem lies with profitability. Where is the line drawn between making money and supporting your country? Would the outdoor community be willing to pay a couple dollars more for something as simple as a t-shirt. We’re talking about millions of dollars in sales of t-shirts. Does the consumer not take this into account or is it because there is no competition? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

In theory yes, in principle yes, in actual paying for it at the cash register, the majority probably not. Besides for the most part, most american workers are pretty lazy. I know I am going to step on some toes but the whole buy American doesn't benefit very many American significantly, the whole buy American benefits the unions and their agendas and corruption which is tied mainly to the democrats.

Welcome FieldDress, it's good to have you with us. In response to your question, I personally will pay for quality over quantity any day. That being said, it would have to be a superior product for me to spend $5 more for it and it would have to be apparent in the difference. I personally wear Mossy Oak products as that is what I started with and it seems to hold up very well. The market seems so diluted now with all the different suppliers out there that they all seem to blend together. I'd be proud to put "Made in the USA" on anything I made and as long as it was a better product. Hope this helps.

Here is my 2 cents since you asked!
I would gladly pay "a couple of dollars" more for American made clothing! Problem is that there is hardly ever that option now days in clothing just like you elluded to in your post!
Its gonna be hard to compete with Cabellas and BassPro since they have such a HUGE customer base to begin with! However if you make a quality product, and dont try to rape consumers with the price, word will spread like wildfire about your products on forums like this, and pretty soon you will be off and running trying to keep up with demand!
I look at where products are made darn near everytime I buy something, and I am shocked when I see something made in the U.S. these days!
You bet I will pay a little more for U.S. goods!

that’s a pretty broad statement
I will pay more to buy local, I buy from and support all the local shops in resturants in my area over chains 75-80% of the time. I dont mind paying a little extra for quality products or service

It was a broad statement and really we are blessed here in Texas to not have to deal with the corruption and greed of the "Buy American Flag of the Unions". I also eat at local mom and pop eating spots, etc. My comments were made towards the big picture of the whole Buy American Movement which is actually a union based propoganda crusade to increase their influence which is against everything capitalism stands for. The reason businesses outsource products is because they get the same or better quality product for a much better price. Business is in business to make money, and if business is making money jobs that benefit that business will be available, if they are not available in America that is sad but business can't go broke just so Americans can have jobs. That would be socialism, which is what the union best case scenario would be. Most large scale manufacturing has heavy union influence and then the ones in bed with the unions tax the heck out of the business.
I do hope you are able to manufacture a quality product and sell it for a quality profit and do it all between the east and west coasts of our great nation. I wish you the best on your journey, but don't rely on America to pay a higher price for the same quality just because it is made in America cause it won't happen.

Its easy to say what you'll buy when you have access to all the major outlets! IMO its just like buying buying groceries or anything else. Its a matter of convienence. Being isolated to a small town and Abilene 50 miles away, I have to consider the economics so more than likely I'll trade at home. So far I haven't found anything that would make me drive an abundance of miles because I have to have something.
Heres a case history. Last Saturday I was in need of a propane pear burner to start fires in my smoker. I could have driven to Abilene for one at Harbour Freight for about 20 or 25 bucks. Instead I bought locally for $69.00 at the local hardware store. Made in the U.S.A. it was!!

I don't believe that was what was meant by the post.
To me, and many other folks it was/is purely a matter of economics.
Most folks especially now are looking at saving as much money as possible when purchasing goods.
Fewer and fewer people over the past 20 years or so have really given any thought to where something is made, but what it costs.
Because of Unions and the high cost of American Labor, many goods that are foriegn made are the more attractive alternative.
If there is a problem to look at, look at all the companies of all kinds across America that have farmed stuff out to the 3rd. World countries due to rising labor costs here in the states.
If it had not been for Unions, we would not have experienced much of the growth that we have in this country.
Many of them have become so corrupted and management heavy, that they are no longer working for the average worker, but are acting like our elected officials, and are working to keep their leaders in power. JMO.

You made a wise choice, that pear burner from Horrible Freight is piece of junk. Get a 3 foot piece of 1/4 black pipe, a grease fitting, some fittings and a little ingenuity and make your own. Don't forget to drill out the grease fitting!

Sadly, I don't believe most buyers, even hunters, check labels to determine country of manufacture. So.....if you're going to market a product produced in the U.S., you should proclaim it LOUDLY on the garment. Even then, I doubt that the average Joe Nimrod will spend the extra bucks in this WalMart world. I hope I'm wrong....
