Euro mounts on barn wood
      #539819 - 10/07/08 12:15 PM

This is a mulie buck that was given to us by a good friend, oh by the way good friend , I'll take more

When Im done, it will be attached to that slab of barn wood. This year I will be doing some mounts like this. I did the mount for the boy ranch hog hunt but forgot to take a pic but J.R. can vouch for it being good. Im not sure on pricing at the moment but Im going to do deer, pigs, predators on barnwood.

Predators(yotes, bobcats, fox, ect...) will be around $50.

Deer & pigs will be around $75 (even if I need to restain the antler).

All of the skulls will be sealed either with polyurthane(sp?) or clear spray acrylic unles you want them painted white.

Fresh or fresh frozen PLEASE. Dont need anything that will make me sick working on it lol. If you want to skin it, great...if not, I will do it.

Turn around is about a wk....give or take depending on my supply level. This is a hobby that Im turning into a little side business.

I have everything open, nothing going at the moment, ready for some.

THANKS for looking.

Really great job Maggie.

Maybe your friend will see that and try to round you up some more skulls.

Is there a market for old barn wood?

This 40+yr old one is on the ground now and I don't want to burn if for firewood if the wood is worth something.

Dont know about a market for it but some people use it like I am or some use it for projects & such. It IS still good wood tho. Dont burn it. Where is that located?? I travel with-in reason to get stuff like that...as long as I have permission to take down the structure.

Instead of painting them white you can a 40% hydrogen peroxide solution. I used to buy it from a place in Alabama, been several years and can't remember the name, in 30 gallon containers. Put the skull in for about 20 minutes and you're done. Snow white and looks much better than paint.

I already use a solution that bleaches the skull WHITE but IF someone wanted it to stay white white, I can paint them. The sealer I use just slows the yellowing that alot of skulls do.

Maggie,
You might really think about the hydrogen peroxide and it can be bought at a cleaning supply place. We used to do all our heads with bleach, but then the skull always flaked some afterwards. The polyurthane may stop that, but I always liked the natural look myself. All the heads done with hydrogen peroxide are still as white as can be and no flaking. The mount in the picture looks great, just wanted to give you a suggestion.

This does make them white, white and they stay that way. Painting is unnecessary and looks cheap...

Soak in some water, it will stink but sligly hydrate the skin & losen it. Did that for the buck I did above.
