I think he's getting what he deserves, but should get more...

Great article Thanks for posting the link.

Texas is just now really getting into that type of Forensic science in poaching cases.

Colorado and some other states have really done a lot of groundbreaking work in that field and it is about as amazing as the way shows like CSI:Miami and some of the others portray it.

Actually Texas has been doing it at least about 6-7 years now,

I had a friend that shot a buck and didn't tag it. He put it on some cardboard in his trunk. Later in the season the game warden pulls him over while is he leaving his hunting lease. Gamewarden seaches his vechile and finds the card board with blood on it. Game Warden notices he has all his tags on his license, long story short he sends the card board off. About a 2 weeks latter Gamewarden shows up at my office looking for my buddy that works for me. Gamewarden told me that they can trace the aminals DNA to a 50 mile radius, and can determine sex and age. I figure they can figure out sex, don't know about the other.

Yeah, and what would have happened if the drunk poacher had shot himself falling out of the deer stand? He would have sued the landowner somehow for it. I think they should make an example of him to discourage other poachers in the future. I also wish the article had more information, its kind of a short blurb.

My mistake, I did not think that it had been that long, I thought it was only five years or slightly less.

I just know that some of the stuff the Game Departments in the various states are doing these days is pretty amazing and really makes the thought of poaching a lot more serious undertaking.

Thanks for the correction on that.

I am from Zavalla and will find out where he was. The Game Warden James Barge is a cousin and my wife knows the guys dad.

how did the warden know the blood on cardboard wasn't from someone else's deer? Just curious, not against the law to transport someone else's deer? With them in car or hunter's document.

If the guy that worked for me would of been smart he would of said it was someones elses deer, called them and told them to lose a tag, but he said it was a yote. GW ended up letting him off pretty easy after he fessed up. $245 total I think.

I hope there is more to the story, if not I feel he got ram rodded. 2 years is a long time in a federal prison, for a hunting related offense. Hell people get less time for much worse crimes. Don't get me wrong I am not for breaking game laws, but there must be a lot to the story that I don't know.

You know it is legal for law enforcement to lie to get someone to admit something... If they really did that then I would think the state would have charged him and served a warrant. Sounds like he was just doing that to get the guy to admit something.

If it was boggy slough then the guy should of known better. Not a place you want to poach on.
