It takes me 3 hours to go from my house to the place that I hunt. All of this country that I drive through contains deer. All along the way, every Friday, I am meeting hunters going the other way. It seems a shame that we have to use all of that fuel and time going from one place to another, when we are driving in deer country all of the way. There is no remedy to the problem, but I was just wondering how much deer country do you have to drive through to get to your lease?

I seriously doubt if there are very many of us that live more than 5 maybe 10 minutes away from an area that contains at least a few deer, with the possible exception of parts of the Panhandle. JMO.

Just all depends on when I see one in the bar ditch sometimes a mile, sometimes 20. But I never shoot inside the city limits, except squirrels with a pellet gun

I am one of those guys in the panhandle, we have a few mulies around but few and far between, I have to drive to around Post, TX(about 45mins) and drop off the caprock before I really get into deer country, and then have to drive another hour and half to get to the deer lease.

i really don't pass thru anything special until i hit the zavala county line, which is about 10 min or so from the gate

nice buck!
unless someone lives around the houston area, i would imagine that it would be a short drive to find places that hold deer.
the gulf prarie regions (fayette, colorado, lavaca, wharton) probably have the lowest numbers, but they are there.

I have deer in my back yard, but I drive 272 miles to get to the ranch to hunt. I'm thinking that I may get a blind built in the trees in the yard one of these days, but not this year. I'm just feeding them at home.

About 0.2 miles from my house if I'm that bored and too lazy to go out any farther than that.
