OK, just beginning in the bow scene and have only been shooting for a couple of months now with a used Browning Tornado compound I bought. I just had the bow shop look it over and put new strings and cables on it a few weeks ago.
Was just out back shooting it and decided to chronograph the arrows. I was shooting @ 20yds and set the chrono about 10' in front of me. Speed was very consistent, 225 or 226fps.
Shooting carbon Terminator Lite Hunter 4560 arrows and 100gr target tips. Bow is set to my draw length of 27-1/2" and has an adjustable 60-70lb draw.
It appears I forgot to ask them the #1 most important question that I am now wondering about, which is: What is the draw weight set at?
Shouldn't this thing be shooting faster than this and is it probably likely it is set at or near the 60lb draw weight? If so, what could I ball park be looking at by increasing to the full 70lb draw weight? It pulls relatively easy for me compared to some I tried before finding this one, making me also believe it is set low.
Thanks guys,
Rick

If memory serves me right, and the older I get the less it does, you will gain about 5 fps for each 3 lbs of weight increase. 225 will kill any deer in Texas out as far as you should ethically shoot. When the temp drops and you have been sitting a while your definition of comfortably drawing might change. Crank it up and try it. Shoot at 10 yards first but it shouldn't make more than 3" or so difference at 20 yards in impact point.

225 is fine if you can hit the spot. My first bow was 180fps and my brothers current bow is 225. Think about it. A recurve is probably 125fps. It isn't the speed that kills, it is the shot placement.

I get about 140 out of my longbow and it does the job just fine.

crank it up to 70 and it will make a difference.
a quiet bow is what counts, not so much the speed, although thats what i like.

i feel more confident shootin faster, merely for the chance of a deer jumpin the string or to punch through a shoulder shot. Speed cant hurt
