I'm in Archer county and just about all the fawns have been taken by yotes, I guess. We have a good number of deer and I have seen only one fawn and we have a $hi+ load of yotes. I've never tried calling them and dont reallly want to during deer season but I do want to try putting a big hook on a wire with a piece of meat and trying to catch some. I do know this is cruel and I'll probably get an ear full asking about it but does this really work?

I have heard of people doing this with a treble hook and liver. Let me know how it works. Yea and I think that would fall under cruel

I know I don't want to do it but I do have to do something. At all my feeders I always find fresh yote crap. I'm starting to think they hang around my feeder for a deer or small hog to come in. I dont know why else they would hang around the feeders so much.

I'd be leary of hanging a hook. Invest in a varmit call and hone your shooting skills. Snares might be a better alternative if you cant thin them out with the gun. I dont like them anymore than the next guy but that is pretty medival (sp?).

The bad part about snares is, that unless a person has had a lot of experience setting the things, any opening a coyotes head will fit thru, so will a doe or a yearling deer.
Until a person has seen something that was not targeted by the snare, get caught and die and the amount of ground that animal tears up while dying, is really an eye opener.
I do not like to see folks use snares, simply because all the coyotes out there are not worth the accidental catch and death of a single deer in a snare. JMO.

I dont remeber the details but I knwo a guy who burys syanide or something like that. When the yote digs for what I guess is bait it releases and kills the yote. All i can recall is its to deep for hogs but not deep enough to where the yotes can dig it out. I am sure their is ALOT of detail I am leaving out so please dont do this but you can look into it for safer ideas.

I definitely agree with you..my rule of thumb has alway's been to never do something that will kill an animal UNLESS i am in full control of what is being killed.

+1 on the snares. I set snares out every time I go to the lease, and take em back up before I go home. Good way to catch a yote or two.

Yeah I have no experience with snares or trapping. I just thought it would be easy to get maybe a strand of barbwire and a big hook and set 20-30 traps. This way I wouldn't have to worry about catching a deer. Also I only have small mesquites on my lease. If I set the hook to where they coyote would only have to jump about a foot to grab it and get caught, the weight of their body would pull the limb low enough to where they are on the ground but still caught, not just hanging in the air.

I hang my snares on barbedwire fences where it is easy to tell something is going under them. If you just want to get rid of the coyotes and don't care to actually get them in your hands, I HAVE HEARD that you can take big chunks of foam like in a seat cushion and soak it in bacon grease and throw it out. It will clog them up ande they will die.

Learn how to trapp....if I had the time and if you were willing id show you how...its a great skill and i love it. If done right trapping and snaring can be a great management tool for yotes and other varmints. You learn a lot about the animals and it has helped me become a better deer hunter as well. Their are some things that can happen that are not to pretty if it is not done right. If you don't want to put in the time or effort then I would get a spot light and try calling them....the hook and bait thing is not to good

Call me I'll come help with the yote problem. How many acres do you have. be more than happy to help thin the rascals out. I wouldn't worry about this years crop of fawns too much what's done is done, just get to them before next years heard arrives.

Only thing I am crying about is that those coyotes ain't laying there dead.
Best looking coyotes to me are ones that ain't breathing any more.
