crap, i posted a long winded answer to this morning, but somehow it didn't actually post - i need to pay more attention. The long and short was, I think the Dall (left) is 304 and the mouflan X on the R is at least 5. I am basing this on the facial features, mane and general appearance of horns. I am not by any means an expert, so I plan to get hubby's opinion.

Look at their front teeth. If they are all small they are a lamb. If they have 2 large ones in the middle they are yearlings. Four large they 2year old. All 6 large they are 3 years or older. After that check the growth rings on the horns.

3VDall and don k. Thank you both. 3VDall, yes, by all means if you can get your husband to give his thoughts that would be more than welcome. don k, I think I have it on the teeth, now what about the growth rings? How often do they add a ring? So far, being uneducated on this, all the rings look the same to me. Anything spacific that would be a marker? Thanks again.

Usually the first year they will get the most growth. Depending on the sheep probably from 6 inches to a foot. The rings will be spread out. Then there will be an area that has a thicker ring. This is where it has slowed down. Then there will be a area probably 4 or 5 inched that the rings are spread out again. This is their second growth period.Usually each year their horns will grow a little less. Hopefully now you are not throughly confused.

This article explains about the rings. Hubby couldn't open the pic on his phone - he will try to work in enough loafing time today to take a look...
