ya'll better be careful throwing out the "rest". it is against the law to waste it. you also have to have one of the legs attached with a tag on it and the breast feathers to prove the sex of the turkey.

from TPWD:

Waste of Game: A reasonable effort must be made to retrieve all wounded game birds and game animals and they must be killed immediately and become a part of the legal bag limit. It is a violation to fail to keep all edible portions of a game bird, game animal, or fish in an edible condition. For whitetail and mule deer, pronghorn antelope, and desert bighorn sheep, the violation is a Class A misdemeanor.

for turkeys in counties where the bag composition is restricted to gobblers and/or bearded hens, a male turkey is required to have one leg, including the spur, attached to the bird; or the bird, accompanied by a patch of skin with breast feathers and beard attached. A female turkey taken during the fall season must be accompanied by a patch of skin with breast feathers and beard attached.

i breaded and fried some and made some chardonnay cream sauce for it....it was AWESOME!

Here we go with the internet GW.

You don't have to eat the legs but you must follow the law above until you get home or the processor. It is to prove you didn't kill a hen during the spring if you get stopped at camp or on the way home. They like to look in coolers at gas stations if you are in camo. That is all.

I've never had a lease with turkey on it, but have gone twice on weekend hunts (2 hunts in 2 years) for them with a friend that did.

I cooked both of them in a smoker and the first one was better than any store bought turkey I've had. The second one was tough as nails though.

Smiling Mallard,

That plate looks great.

Arrowed another bird this past weekend.......

Well, I'm originally from E.TX so we pretty much chicken fry everything which is what I usually do with my Thunder Chickens. I fried this bird up last night but instead of my usual gravy, black eyed peas, etc. I tossed them in Louisians Wing sauce. DAYMMMMM!!!!

The only thing missing were pretty young girls in short orange gym shorts and cut off t-shirts. Really good stuff and I'm sure any of the wing sauces will be good. The Mallard family sure liked it but the wife refused to put on the orange shorts and bring me pitchers of cold beer.

That looks pretty tasty! I'd order that at a restaurant if I walked in and saw it.

You're supposed to tag 'em??? I thought you just breast 'em out and go straight to the grill for lunch. Then hunt coyotes over the carcass.

I saw an entry on this post that said it was illegal to just take the breast of a turkey. I see what the regulation says, but that only applies to final processing...right?. In other words, once it is transported to its final destination, such as your house, you can clean out the breast and do what you will with the rest. Please Let me know if I am wrong
