If you want to get a good price, get federal hi-brass at Acadamy like 2 months before hunting season and stock up. If you wait 2 weeks before hunting season they are all gone. You can find places that have them after that, but you pay thru the nose. Call around, bps, online..

If so why? because there aren't that many out there and most of the ammo companies concentrate on the more popular calibers. The 16 is a great gun just never did gain the popularity of the 12 and the 20 for some reason.

I have an old break down single shot JC Higgins 16 ga. my grandfather gave me before he passed away. I had it completely redone. I've had some great times with that shotgun!

Pretty much!! You know what they say in the business world, volume volume volume!! Most folks shoot 12 ga, that's why they are the cheapes. I got a remington model 31 pump 16 ga, I shot that hun all my life, this is the first season I have not used it only because I got an SBE II.

I too grew up hunting w/a JC Higgins 16 gauge, it was quite a step up from the .410 I started with. I'm glad you have fond memories like me.
