Glad to hear so many good reports on bird numbers based on the 2007 hatch. Any indications on how the 2008 hatch is going? Any poult sightings? I am especially interested in north central and central Texas.

I was at the new lease yesterday and saw a hen with 5 or 6 poults. Then 10 minutes later a turkey flew 10 feet over my head. Scared me silly!

Welcome, we have habitat problems in the Coleman area. Not seeing hardly any chicks or poults.

Saw a hen with at least 8 chicks monday. Was just a mile or 2 outside of Coleman on HWY 206, she crossed w/ them following. That is the first & only chick sighting I have seen this year.

I have spoken with several ranchers both in the Panhandle and around San Angelo and all are just now starting to see some broods. Seems like the hatch may be a little late this year. Rain has defiantely helped over most of the turkey range during the past 2 weeks. Some are very optimistic about the quail hatch as well.

Please keep your reports coming!

This shot was taken a couple of weeks ago in San Saba County. I have a trail cam by my hog trap, which wasn't in use at the time. I've got a huge turkey population, and the hatch in 2008 looks just as good as last year's was.

Good quality photo, what type of trail cam do you use? Thanks

I have several Moultrie I40 infrared cameras and have really good luck with 'em. I don't like the position of the SD card and was apprehensive about using 6-D cell batteries but have been getting outstanding life (6 months) out of a set of batteries.
