To start with, this guy has some serious issues. First of all his right antler is jacked up and you will notice he also has all sorts of injuries on his body, both sides. Any ideas as to whats goiong on?

Now I believe this lady still had her baby in the oven in this pic

This is just a group pic, nothing to get excited about.

I thought that briefly but then I thought about those darn black panthers CH is always warning us about. Maybe a black cat was on his back and then slapped the chit out of him and broke his antler.

I'd say either he had a close encounter with a car, or he ran through a fence.

Is the antler growth malfunction an injury or is it a scrub buck forever?

It looks to me like maybe a fence as stated above. I bet that the antler is broke off inside the skin. It should still harden though. Overall the deer looks to be healthy. Young deer.

now if he went through a fence or sustained anykind of injury, then there might be the chance he damaged his huevos and in a lot of case's will cause him to start growing some freak horns and will continue to grow them with out dropping his previous antlers. i've even read that injuries period can cause this condition if they get infected. so keep an eye on him over the next year and see if he drops those antlers or continues growing some cool freek horns with velvet staying on them also.

It looks like something he did while still in velvet. BUT if he's not the same next year(if he's left alone, good luck with that if there are other hunters around) then if he's not better it might be genetics & such.
