DPMS/Stag

I'm in the market for an AR (M4 Carbine Style) and have looked at the DPMS & Stag products. I wanted to see if anyone have feedback on these two brands and if you prefer to shoot opens sights or use optics on your rifles?

We just got the DPMS M4 style for my daughter back in January. Stock adjustment for her was the big draw. Rifle shoots well, no failures to feed. Not too happy with rear sight, won't adjust far enough. Have to get the red dot sighted in before I can tell you about optics.

My AR isn't either brand but as to sights, I put a scope on my A2 for a while and didn't like the shooting position it forced me into. Maybe if I had a flattop it would be better but with the A2 carry handle, the scope sits very high.

i just bought a bushmaster M4, flattop that i equiped with a red dot sight.

i was looking at the stag since i'm a lefty, but the price of the bushmaster was too good to pass up.

love the rifle, it drives tacks and is tough as nails. picked it up on sale at sportsmans for $775

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not 100% certain which brand I'll buy, but I'll purchase one in the next 30 days.

First, let me say that I am most certainly NOT an expert on AR type weapons. However, my son is a gunsmith with considerable experience in them. A few months ago I also decided that I would get myself an AR, but had no idea what brand to buy or what "options" I should consider. Thus, I went to him for assistance. His recommendation to me was that all of the major makes are good guns. However, he did say that unless I was going to have him or some other gunsmith dissassemble, clean, and reassemble the AR prior to my shooting it the first time, he would NOT buy a DPMS at this time! He told me that he has been selling alot of the different major brands thru the store and has had some major malfuctioning & damage issues with the DPMS brand in the last year. The issue seems to stem from inadequate cleaning of metal shavings, filings, etc. from inside both the lower and upper receivers before they leave the factory. He said that they are good guns, IF you first take them apart and clean the leftover "crap" out of them. Thus, he has implemented a program to do that to every new DPMS that comes into the shop prior to putting it on the shelf.

It's official, I joined the AR family today. I purchased a Stag Model 2 from Ammo Depot. Haven't taken it to the range yet, but the finish and fit are very good. I realize I'm new to the forum, so people may not want to hear feedback from a newbie, but Ammo Depot had the best retail price. I may have gotten a better price at a show, but wanted to purchase my first rifle from a retail store. In addition to the price, they were very friendly and easy to do business with. I would recommend visiting their store before purchasing. I'll post an update after I take it out to the range. Thanks again for all of your feedback.

I paid $790.00 for the gun and it came with the one clip and case. The best price I had found before yesterday was $825.00. Might be able to find a better price at a gun show, but I wanted my first AR purchase to be from someone I knew and could call if I have any problems. I plan on building one at some point in the future, but wanted to become familar with the gun before I venture down that road.

Good job bigjoe. I bought the same gun a few months ago. It shoots great. Haven't had a bit of trouble out of it. Paid the same price for it. I haven't found a price anywhere near what I paid for it. I love it. Congrats.
