So I decided to pull out the right side of my ambi safety, to make room for my crimson trace grips, and all he77 broke loose.
Nothing fell out, but upon reassembly, my slide would not go back on to the frame. The slide barely makes it to the hammer. I went ahead and yanked the barrel, guid rod and spring out, still the same issue.
Anyone know what could be happening?
Thanks, PB

Can't help over the net, but reminds me of the first time I tore down my old Gov't Colt. I had to carry it back to my buddy that I bought it from and get him to put it back together.

It it's any standard 1911 design, I think that's just the hinge for the grip safety. IIRC, the hammer is on a separate pin and the sear sits on the disconnector which is on yet antoher pin pin.
The series 80 has a firing pin block that is actuated by 2 pieces of junk that sit on the side of the regular stuff and I don't remember which pin they're on as I sold my series 80 in favor of a Springfield that didn't have that junk on it. FWIW, the exploded diagram of a Taurus that has that stuff on it looks like one piece pivots on the disconnector or hammer pin and not the safety pin, which still seems to hold only the grip safety pivot. The other piece looks like it sits on a "new" third pin. That brings back a memory and I think the series 80 is the same design. http://www.taurususa.com/pdf/parts/1911SS.pdf
If the upper receiver will not go all the way back before it even reaches the hammer, that sounds like the disconnector will not go down or the upper firing pin block actuator is sticking up.
When you look down on the lower receiver from the top, there should be a metal "button" sticking up in the middle, near the back. More or less just a bump. Is it sticking on that? Also, on the right side of the top of the lower receiver, there will be a slot that a little lever can stick up out of to move the firing pin block. Is that lever stuck sticking up? If it is neither of those things, I'd need to see it to understand it. It is also possible, if you disassembled the upper receiver, that there is a problem with the re-assembly of the firing pin block or the gate that holds the firing pin, but those don't normally go together well if they aren't together right and you would notice.
