Randall goes thru a 2 gallon tin of Gatorade powder in about a week.
I found, by reading the ingredients and a bit of experimentation, a MUCH cheaper homemade version, that he says is pretty much the same in flavor:
for orange: 2 pkts unsweetened orange Kool-Ade or generic 1 pkt unsweetened lemonade
1 cup sugar 1 cup sucralose (brand name is splenda but there are storebrands. Make sure it is sucralose, not aspartame.) 1/2 tsp iodized salt 1/4 tsp fake salt (potassium iodide; there are several brands and generics) 1/4 tsp citric acid (you can find this in the Kosher section, listed as 'sour salt'
Mix well. Mix with water to taste.
I figured that the above costs about a dollar for a batch. The most expensive items are the sucralose (about $6 for a package that makes 10 batches), the unsalt ($2 or $3 for a small canister, but will make 40+ batches) and the sour salt (but I found a 5 oz jar for 99 cents). The sour salt/ citric acid is also usefull to acidify water to put apples, pears, or potatoes in, so they won't get brown; also you can use it in cheesemaking.
I guess you could experiment with other flavors of koolaid. You could use 2 cups of sugar, but don't use all sucralose, as the sugar is needed for the electrolytes to work.

Any idea how you would alter the recipe to make it more like Pedialyte for children?

Look on the ingredients. They are listed in order of the most amounts are first, (Sugar for example, or Water for the liquid)and least amounts are last.
I really doubt it will be much different, though.
In a pinch, you can take electrolyte powder that you can get at the feed store, and make it up per the instructions for baby animals; then add flavorings.

Thanks, how much water on average for the recipe above. I think I could give CHC a run on the gatoraid consumption. I've gone to the old timers work schedule, day break to dark with a four hour siesta.

Well, Randall says that each batch I make is a bit different, because of the different brands of flavoring, and sometimes I run out of sucralose, so use more or less sugar. He starts out by partially filling a bottle with water, and putting a scoop of powder in, then adjusts it to taste.

oh ok, I'm idiot. Your mixing is per glass I thought you were doing pitchers or gallons. Thanks a lot.

Not an I-dot, you could do the same thing - just put less water at first, and add water till it tastes right...

CAMPCOOK You never cease to amaze me. I have tried some of the recipes you have posted and found all of them to my liking. Thanks for a GREAT 'GatorAide' recipe! I made a batch of orange today (increased potassium iodide & citric acid to 3/8 tsp each). I need more electrolytes in mine because I sweat so bad. Great stuff. I found that the best ratio was 2TBSP of mix to 1 cup water (that was my taste preference). Randall is one lucky guy! One of these days I hope to meet you and Randall so I can put a face to a name. Thanks again!

You are very welcome. We both enjoy meeting folks!
You want to be careful about the citric acid, potassium, and sodium. It would actually be better for you to drink more product than to increase the amounts in each;
As some of you know I belong to the SCA, the middle ages re-enactment group. When we mixed electrolytes for the fighters, we ALWAYS made it 1/2 strength.
Your kidneys are working extra hard when it is hot anyway, and you so do not want to stress them...
