I'm wanting to change rifles. The two that I am leaning toward are the Remington 700 "Boone and Crockett" in .270 WSM. Or the Savage 12FVSS in the same caliber. Wanting thoughts, likes, dislikes, etc.

Remington 700 in 270 WSM would be my choice! It is more expensive, but it will hold its resale value better than the Savage!
Both brands have a very loyal following, but I have always been partial to the 700!

I have a Remington model 7 in 270wsm and like it very much. The recoil pads on remington are very helpful in taming felt recoil and the triggers are crisp. I dont' think you can go wrong

BIL, what do you think of the caliber? I have been a faithful .270 shooter for years and was just wanting to try something different. The numbers are impressive compared to a .270 win. and a 7mm. Thanks for the responses.........

Are you dead set on the 270 wsm? A 7mm rem mag is very close and would give you some more options. like the Ruger M77s and Hawkeyes. Just my $.02, there's nothing wrong with a model 700 thats for dang sure.

One main reason is I am a fan of the short action after being a 22-250 shooter for a long time. You have a short action that has 7mm mag power and though not a model 700 you can get it in small packages like the model 7. It has awesome power with the recoil equivalent to a or less than a 3006. The gun I picked I fell in love with on the shelf and they only had it in a 270wsm that day; but if I had my choice and for the reasons I listed above, I would go with a 300wsm. You can kill anything you want in north america and load it from 130-225 gr. The 270 wsm will kill anything you want as well but some hunting ranches might have a .30 cal rule. This year in my 270wsm im going to try either the Federal barnes tsx 110's or the 130's. They are supposed to be awesome.

i own the 12fvss in 300 wsm. the gun shoots very good groups. my accutrigger works great. i plan on changing the stock - the factory stock is very flimsy. i too agree on choosing the 300wsm over the 270wsm. more ammo choices w/ bullets ranging from 130 - 180 grains.

I like the 270 WSM. What did the trick for me is that the numbers are almost the same as a 7 mag. Mine is a Browning A-bolt and it is sweet. I have a Rem Model 7 in .223, not sure I'd really like it in .270 WSM though.
Have a Savage in .204 Ruger that is a tack driving son-of-a-gun. I'd guess the 270 WSM would be good from them too.
It's probably going to boil down to which one fits your shoulder and your wallet better.

the model 7 doesnt hurt your shoulder at all, im pretty recoil sensitive.

BIL, thanks, that's good info. My model 7 is one of the easier guns I have to get out the window quickly. Definitely food for thought.
