What do you guys look for when setting up your stands and what distance do you keep from spot to spot? I'm looking at topo/aerial maps and trying to keep them at least 1000 yards apart.

I look for where my bullet might travel after a bad shot, a skip, or deflection. Not by choice but our stands are very close to one another 500 yards or less on most of them.

Ours are close to one another also. Got to watch out for those bullets like brother in-law said. Need to look for bedding areas, travel routes, and feeding areas to know best locations for blind set-ups. Feeders will draw them to you. Corn is getting expensive though!!

Depends on terrain! I like my stand locations up high (like on a ridge) and my feed locations down low (like in a valley)! On this lease I have 3 stands and they are all about 1000+ apart, but most people dont have enough land to be able to use the 1000 yard figure as a starting point! As long as its safe then I dont think it would matter too much how far apart you put them! The farther the better in my opinion though!
Here are some pictures of my most productive spot! The picture is taken from where I sit looking down into a valley where a feeder is located! If you look close you will see my feeder with 3 nice bucks in it! For this set up I dont even have a stand because I am up on a cliff looking down. The feeder is about 200 yards!
These are the type of set ups I look for when choosing a stand location! This is one of the most remote locations on this lease and you have to walk about 3/4 of a mile through the ceders just to get to it.

biggest thing is to scout, my dad spent a large part of the season on one side of the power lines and saw nothing, now we have a camera setup on the other side similar terrain and there are number bucks coming regularly

On our lease stands have to be at least 500 yards apart....but in East Texas thats pretty safe with all the trees, there is nowhere on our lease I know of that you can see anywhere close to that far.

I think the closes stand to me is 300yds but I'm in East Texas and my farthest shot will only be about 40yds because of the trees!!! Depends on the terrain!!!
