Trainers for Deutsch Drahthaar
      #448133 - 06/25/08 05:57 PM

Some of ya'll might remember that I bought a DD about five weeks ago. I was wondering if anyone here has any trainers that they would recomend for this breed. While I am sure that I could do this on my own I am just having a hard time finding alll of the time to do it. My workload has greatly increased over the last month and will continue that way for the next 6-9 months. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the breed club for contacts in your area? There are training days coming in your area as am sure you are aware.
Are you looking to drop the dog off for training? I dont think there are any trainers just for dd's that do boarding and what not for months at a time. From what I gathers, its all DIY with help from training days.

A good trainer is not breed specific. A good dog trainer is a good dog trainer.

Having said that,I have been a member at spanish oak and they did not seem to familar with the JGHV testing system. However see what i wrote about dog trainers.

What do you want a trainer to do with your dog?It does not take as much time as one would think. If you dont even have time for that, then maybe you should find a home for the dog that will. At such a young age, this is a very important time for the dog and it would be a shame if it were not allowed to develop into its full potential.

Check with VDD-GNA. There are several opportunites to train with other VDD members in the area. I have heard of some DD breaders that board and train, but I can't remember their names.

In the dog's first year, you really don't need to train a DD, just expose it to everything. The only training this year is basic obedience. Just spend time in the field with the dog and make the dog want to be with you and hunt for you.
