      #437376 - 06/07/08 02:58 PM

What do you use and how do you like it. I just sold my Garmin Vista (Older BW one) and am thinking of purchasing the new Vista Hcx, but would like to hear other experiences. Thanks for the help.

I have the Garmin 60CSX and it is very nice- great features, good color and reception. The new Garmin Colorado's look good, but way pricey right now.

I saw a new 60CSX on Ebay for $270+shipping, thats a heck of a deal.

I see that the 60 series is a bit bigger and a larger screen than the Vista series. But most of the rest seems to be the same functionality within each group..like color screen, High sensitivity reciever, adding memory. I had 0 issues in all the time I had my old garmin Vista..that was nice

I'm also using the 60csx. I used to have a Garmin Legend but lost it while on a hunt in Newfoundland. The new unit is a little bigger and has more bells and whistles. Perhaps newer is better?? I like them both as either will get me back to the pickup after dark.

My older model Vista would do that.. I really don't use all the bells and wistles. I wanted to upgrade for color monitor,High sensitivity reciever, more memory capacity if needed and UBC compatiability vs. serial that I had. If I get the new Vista Hcx ..it will cost me net $106 over what I got for the old system. I like the garmin as I know how to use it and it seems to last. Vista vs 60map series..hmmm

Take a look at Delorme's handheld GPS, the PN-20 and the Topo USA 7 package. Fairly expensive, but very versatile, especially when you can put all your routes and waypoints on your home computer. The ability to download $100.00 worth of aerial maps or USGS topos is nice also. Just a thought.

I think that the Garmin 60CSX is the best GPS on the market and very easy to use. I used Magellan GPS for serveral years, but the Garmin 60CSX has them all beat in my opinion. I have used my 60CSX in Colorado and a lot of other places and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have the topo maps on it as well.

What does the 60CSX feature wise the Vista HCX doesn't ? Thats what I have been trying to figure out..lol A little bit bigger screen but with a little lower resolution. I have been trying to compare to find out.

Go to garmin.com and then choose on the trail and then choose mapping handhelds and then you can compare the features of the models side by side. I don't think there is much difference between the 60CSX and Vista HCX, but I prefer the buttons on the front over the buttons on the side.

I have used Magellans for several years and I think that the 60CSX is the best and easiest to use as well.

I ended up getting a Garmin Vista HCX.. I knew how to use my old Vista so should be pretty much the same. I basicly use it to mark points in the field so I can get to them again. I know it does a whole bunch more. But all I really care is to get back to my truck or a hunting spot or landmark I want to find. Probably really didn't need to upgrade but ended up ugrading from a 6-7 year old unit to the latest greatest Vista with the high sensitivity chip for $105 net. I can live with that..lol

The key word there is GARMIN! I dont think you can go wrong with any of their units. As I mentioned I have the 60csx and love it, my buddy bought one last night for a Colorado trip over the next few weeks and had some issues that their customer service fixed online first thing this morning.
