Me and my buddy were going to try to go down Thursday night to get an early start on the weekend but of course work got in the way and we didn’t get to go down until Friday night.
Well, El Diablo lives to be chased another season. I am quite sure that if the devil were to take the form of a turkey it would definitely be this bird. I am also quite sure that as I drove out of the lease gate he was perched somewhere holding his right foot up with the two outside toes curled up giving me the …ugh “bird” if you will.
We hunted HARD and did hear quite a good bit of gobbling early Saturday but couldn’t get any of the birds all the way in. Some had hens with them and some simply strolled by at about 100 yards gobbling and half strutting at my calls but showing no interest in coming to the hen sounds. Early afternoon at 2:30 we did get a group of five two year olds and jakes to come all the way in and we took 3 out of that group.
Sunday was very cool and VERY WINDY. Only heard a few gobbles off the roost and never worked a bird.
Cool Storm on Friday evening:

Pardon the extreme "Bubbaness" of this photo but man it was hot on Saturday. Truck themometer said 96 degrees and I believe it.

Those 2yr olds will eat better anyway! You can always kick EL-DIABLOS butt next year and he will be all the better.
