Hey Guys, Was just posting pics in the waterfowl section and thought it'd be cool to post up some mounts in the upland section too. A little offseason relief if you will! Lesser prairie chicken trio. The one hen on the right is from Texas, the other two are from southwest Kansas. Mearns' quail trio, these are from Arizona, but there are a few here in Texas. Maybe someday we'll be able to hunt them here Scaled quail from the Kansas hunt, but are the same kind as the one's in the panhandle. Close up of the male with white primary feathers Gambel's quail taken in El paso. That was actually a really awesome hunt even though we were going out to the desert to duck hunt! And finally a trio of Mountain (Columbian) sharptails I got while hunting in southeast Idaho this year. Still have to mount up the blue grouse and ruffed grouse from that trip too, world class wingshooting out there... Eric |

I do have a cool trio of Bob's that I need to get some pics of. Just need the valley and mountains to have the NA slam. The bobwhite was my first ever upland bird to get, I love their call! Of all the upland, to me the grouse are the most interesting. You can be hunting from the top of a mountain to sage flats, to wide open grasslands. Good way to get a fill of pretty scenery. Eric |

I've been messing with birddogs and hunting quail for almost 40 years, but never did a mount like those. They are really beautiful and I think you've motivated me to get one done. Really really nice....... |

Eric, Have always loved seeing your mounts. I took some college taxidermy classes years ago so I have a real appreciation for them. Your very good. I just could not bring out the artist in me that is required to be really good at it and to pay someone would take away from my hunting budget. So I try to save the memories in pictures instead. After my OK-KS all game trip with the Vizsla, I mentioned that I was thinking about Colorado hunting Blue Grouse. You suggested I should follow that with Sage Grouse. I am hunting Blue Grouse in September this year for sure. Very slight chance I will be doing an international bird hunting walkabout so Colorado may be cut short. But if I don't travel overseas I will probably just extend my Colordo trip heading north for Sage Grouse and whatever else is in season that I can figure out. Any chance I could give you a call when that comes closer and pick your brain a little on the Sage Grouse hunting? |

Sniper John, Absolutely! Any time you want to talk birds I'm game to say the least, try to help as much as I can. I'll pm you my number. I am going to Colorado this fall for ptarmigan/blue grouse/sage grouse. Such a cool place, unfortunetly last time had the freak snow storm which cost me my Blue, so got my fingers crossed for this year. Eric |

Great mounts would really like to hear details on the Mearns quail hunt. I've been hunting Bobs and Blues for years and have both them and a Valley and a Gambles mounted. |

Quote: The Mearns hunt was a deal where I had a friend that lived out there and was going to go after Blue grouse in northern AZ. A few months before time to go he was unable to do it and said he had a cousin that hunted with all the time that lived in southeastern AZ and could take me out after Mearn's. So I said Very cool hunt, think around 4-6,000 feet, didn't get to hunt as much as I would have liked to get some extra birds etc. Either way was able to get a nice trio to mount up so I was happy. Probably my favorite quail, between him and the mountain anyway. Eric |
