Try www.fredericksburg-texas.com & check the "places to eat". Great German food & some good bakeries there also.

No prob, we are thinking about heading there or Kerrville for a wknd to celebrate our anniversary the end of August. Can play tourist & most of the kids will be back in school. LOTS of wineries with tasting rooms out there too.

Maggie, there is a B&B called Magnolia House that my wife and I stayed at for a few days!!! We do highly recommend it!!! We stayed there and toured the wineries in the area. That Biergarten has pretty good food.

I went there a few weeks ago with the wife. The place we went back to was the Biergarten. The schnitzel was great, and this may sound funny, but the mexican pizza was the best.

On the way to Lukenback there is a road I think it's called Old Grapetown Rd. or Old Tunnel Rd. it's a nice road thru the counrty. There is a old railroad tunnel where you can watch the bats going out for the their nightly supper.I don't know the name of the burger joint there ,but get their burger on their home made jalepino (sp)bun .IT'S AWESOME.The ruben sandwich at Ausilanders Biergarten is good.Another plase is West of town called the Hill Top cafe (?) they where written up in Texas Highway for their food.

Got spider bit at the Bavarian Inn last week. My foot swelled up couldn't walk for damn near the entire week. I was wearing flipflops and felt a stick under the table. Started poppin' benadryl. That place has always creeped me out. Food is lacking in yumminess as well.

Re: Fredericksburg Food Ideas???

If Fredericksburg is too much of a tourist trap, I highly suggest Kerrville. We stayed at the...crap forgot the name but has a Texas shaped pool. Was niceeeeeee & you can still walk some & check out all the shops & eateries. Sometime this month the apples in Medina(I think) are coming off & they do some "pick-your-own" at the orchards. NOTHING like fresh apple cider.

Marble Falls is not that far away and THAT'S where
"THE BLUE BONNENT CAFE" is and that's a great place to eat.

I agree completely.

We spent last Wednesday night in Marble Falls. The main reason? Just to eat at the Bluebonnet!

Been eating there for almost 20 years and never been disappointed.

Can't go wrong with the pot roast!

+1 on the Hilltop Cafe. It is located on the hiway to Mason, US 87 at FM 648. Unless you have reservations, you will have to wait for a table. The cafe is in a funky old gas station, but don't be fooled--the food is innovative and first class. It is a little pricey--expect food and drinks for two will set you back 100 bucks--but it is worth it for a memorable meal. If you have kids in tow, the Biergarten might be a better choice, but if you are looking for a romantic evening with your squeeze, I'd do the Hilltop.

Biergarten was AWFUL food this summer, and the beer wasn't much better.

Go to HONDO's, cold beer, good food, fun place....kids and family OK place...

Andy's -they are off the beaten path - cannot remember which road, but I guessing you can look them up. Mamacita's is also good Mexican.

We use to eat at Friedhelms. We ate the Friedhelm's Rump Steak with all the fixins. That was 20 years ago. I looked on the net and they are still there. The cost was $16 then, prolly over $30 now. Anyway if I was going to choose my "last meal", that would be it.

..You had to go there..I ate there growing up before they did the major renovation..That Rump steak was to die for..with the mushrooms and onions piled high..I went there 2 years ago on the way through and it was still awesome..didnt even pay attention to the bill cause it would have been worth it!!!
