Moon phase and hunting.

Does the moon phase effect hunting success?

Re: Moon phase and hunting.

Some folks swear by it, some folks swear at it.

The belief I have heard is that during the Full of the moon animals and fish can or will feed at night instead of during the early morning/lateafternoon hours of day light.

I have never placed much faith in it, and have relied on the concepts of, "If you ain't in the woods with your gun, or don't have your hook in the water, you ain't gonna catch or kill anything, regardless of what phase the moon is in".

That is just my philosophy on the subject.

People are always tlking about how gam and fish is "Supposed" to act according to the book.

Funny thing is, I ain't never seen me no critters or fish setting around reading. JMO.

Re: Moon phase and hunting.

In "NORMAL" conditions, the LUNAR PHASE does affect the sleep and feeding patterns of deer and other animals and fish, just as it affects the tidal movement of waters. But, things that will change those patterns would be the RUT, drought, and other factors affecting the environment.

Those factors can and will vary the "predicted" movements and habits of animals. Many times the predictions are right on! But like CH said.... if ya ain't got your bait in the water, or in the field with your gun..... ! ! ! !

Re: Moon phase and hunting.

i don't change my patterns according to the moon phase's,but i do cuss the full moons when they are showing. and it does slow down the movement in the morning and afternoon hunts sometime's,don't know if they moon had much to do with it. but i believe them big smart old bucks take advantage of it. usually when there is a full moon i hunt later in the morning go back to camp eat and head right back out. if it's during the rut i'll set up and rattle in the middle of the day and have seen good results. have got a lot of good video and taken one good buck during the middle of the day that was during a full moon phase. not scientific proof or anything but their is defenitely somthing to it. but if you not out their in the middle of it your not going to be able to put your cross hairs or hook on anything.

Re: Moon phase and hunting.

The only thing that I have noticed is, that we seem to see a lot more movement when the moon is up late in the morning around 7 to 8 am.

My BIL swears a full moon screws up the hunting all day. I guess it would kind of make sense that deer would be moving at night during a full moon with a clear sky, therefor not moving during the day.

However, my feeder still doesn't go off until 7am, so if they want my corn they still have to come at 7am no matter what the moon does.
