Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

A nice dose of lead poisoning followed by a covering of BBQ sauce applied to a bun.

Seriously- I saw someone on here talking about PVC pipe around the legs of the feeder. They even had a picture of the way to set it up.
Good Luck!

Put your feeder legs inside PVC pipe....

Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

Some guy on Texas boars said using the nail strips they use to install carpet (sold at Home Depot and Lowes) stops the climbing and the boar bumping

Mount your feeder legs higher on the barrel, harder to reach the gold nuggets

Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

Carpet tack strips do NOT work. They just climb right over them. I'm going to try the PVC thing. Went up there this weekend. Those masked rats had pulled the front off of my varmint cage (broke two of the clips doing it) and had managed to pull the face plate off of the motor housing. BUT, everything else was ok; only one wire disconnected.

Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

I actually just posted in the feeder thread about a timer/motor now that comes with a varmint zapper. I am not thinking of changing my timer, but just rigging up their electric zapper part on my feeder. Not sure if it will work, but I am going to try it.....

Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

I posted back on that thread. I have them on some of my feeders with only pics of coons eating on the ground, none are hanging from my motors, spinners, etc. Now my feeders without the varmint zapper is a different story.

Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

I put some $2 bearing grease on my feeder legs. It stayed on for months and after a few weeks of licking grease off of their paws they stopped even trying to climb up. I haven't used any this year and have had no problems with them climbing the feeder. They still eat it off the ground but don't try to climb it anymore.

Sprinkle a liberal portion of cayenne pepper on that grease and I bet that will keep them away.

i was in our new harbor freight the other day and notices they had live traps... http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/search.do?keyword=animal+trap

I made the mistake of buying one of those Harbor Freight traps and they are real junk. Set it four times, caught a coon each time. In all four cases the coon pried the door open and escaped. I did my best to reinforce and improve it but finally gave up and dismantled it to make a varmint guard. I finally bought a couple of these traps:
Iron City Trap
The Iron City traps are very sensitive and hold the coons well--haven't had one escape yet.

Re: Any Suggestions for the coons??

We get rid of coons by loading up 110gr v-max Hornady bullets in our 300 WSM. After you pull the trigger you can actually hear the bullet impact. The sound is very refreshing after so many of our feeders have been destroyed by the coons. We have lights on our feeders (during the off season for hogs) and we see them all the time while we are hog hunting.

I wouldn't bring cayenne pepper within a country mile of a deer feeder.
Not MY feeder that is......

Has anyone thought about putting a non-conservative amount of tar on their feeder legs. It wight turn your deer feeder into a coy dog feeder also.
