Down but not Out

Only my second time predator hunting. Set up in a dry creek bottom approx 65 yds wide. Signs of game everywhere. Visibility is 60 yards to asphalt road and barbed wire fence and 150 yards other direction. My back is towards a very steep hill/cliff/mountain, i am facing a sloping hill covered with cedars and some oaks. Setup around 6:30pm, full cammo, blew my rabbit distress call every 10-15 minutes until dark and nothing. Can I improve my setup, change calls, set traps instead, try it at night? I really like the idea of calling in a predator, so I am not ready to give up, but need help, advice or just patience.

After 15 to 30 minutes with no response, it is time to move 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. With the heat, night hunting might result in better hunting. 11 pm to 2 am or so. That is what I would do.

Not the best time of year to hunt them right now, wait til mid-september & such & it will pick up. Right now they are still denned up & feeding the young & not straying far. Also watch the moon, when its full the hunting sucks but right before it goes down & right before it comes up its good.

We are really thick with cedars, this is one of the best "open" places on our place. Would it be just as good to pick a little clearing and sit with a shotgun?
Would it be a bad idea to hunt close to our feeders?
I did not even think about them tending to the pups.
I wont make it back until Sept. so hopefully I'll have a little better luck then.

Shotgun is always needed.
SOMETIMES things will come into the feeders. (fox & cats after birds & rodents & rabbits, yotes for a snack of corn or birds & such) Yes yotes eat corn, 2 deer seasons ago, I busted a female that ran off all the deer JUST to eat corn.
With cedars you are liable to have a fox come sit in your lap or a cat sneek in without you knowing, thats why even along, carry a shotgun & rifle. NEVER know what shot you can get.
