Re: MOULTRIE GAMESPY D40 GAME CAMERA

I have two of the D 40's they work pretty well and are easy to set up. There are a few downsides to them. First the battery life is pretty poor. Mine usuall will go through 6 D Energizer bats. in about 4 weeks or 400-500 pictures. I have used rechargable bats. and they last about 70% as long as regular batteries. The second complaint which is related to battery life is that it will take quite a few pics durring the day with nothing in front of the camera. i don't think this is related to shutter speed but to a cheap IR sensor. Overall for $100 it is not a bad camera. Just be prepared to shell out the money for some batteries. A couple of months ago I bought the 5.0 Infrared camera for around $220. The batteris on this camera will last around 4 months and it records temperature and moonphase. If you can aford it I would go with the 5.0 IR it will pay for itself in batteries eventually. I hope this helps. One other thing if you are going to buy a trail camera I highly recomend a Trail Pod. You will get fewer pics of noting in the day time and it is alot easier to place the camera where you want it instead of attempting to rig a camera to a tree. I hope this helps.

Both the I60 and I40 cameras have been doing well at our store. The I60 in particular has been giving Cuddeback a real run for their money! The D40 is still a good camera and should do everything that you expect! Just sorta depends upon how much money you want to spend to take pictures of animals!

If you've got the money, go with the I-60....I have batteries in the camera that have been in there since December, and still shows between 50-60% of battery life. Thats after over 2000 pics....

Re: MOULTRIE GAMESPY D40 GAME CAMERA

I just bought a Game Watcher 2.1 on Ebay for $77.00. This is my 3rd of these models. The first was stolen and the second one has crapped out. They take good pictures, it doesn't hurt so bad if it's stolen/dies, and they use a 6volt battery.

Just an idea for ya if you're looking to save a few dollars.

We just hung the d40 yesterday when we filled the feeder.
What a pain in the butt getting it aimed right!!!

If you go with the I series from Moultrie you can buy the solar panel that has a built in battery pack.I have the I-40 and seems to work so far. Two other guys on our lease have the d40 and we have seen the same thing that was mentioned earlier of pictures with nothing there.

I have one.Same issues as everyone else.Pics of nothing there. For the price though it has worked out well. It still takes good and clear pictures.I've had as many as 300 pics in one week time and that was setting it with a 5 minute pic delay.

Go with the I60 and the additional solar panel with the 12 volt battery and you will never have any problems.

Not sure but I think the M40's are replacing the D40's, you might give these a try. I have one, tested it in my back yard for a night or two then we hung it in the woods. I'll report back when we check it in a few weeks. It claims to run 150 days on 6 d's, plus it has a port for the new solar panel from Moultrie with built in battery. Its real easy as far as programming, not much to it at all. Check them out if you dont mind spending a little more money. I ordered mine through walmart, yes the blue box, because they had it for 149.00, cheaper then anywhere else I cared to order from. Moultrie I think listed them at 219.00.

I now have 2 of the D40's and paid under 90.00 for each one of them.In my opinion they are a good choice for my needs. They are good quality and i have had no problem after about 1,000 picture's.I got one on rechargeable batteries and the other on the moultrie 12 volt solar panel/battery pack.I also found mounts for them on ebay. The pictures i have posted were taken with the D40 on medium quality.

I40 is the best camera I have used. battery life is awesome, and the sensor is great. Hardly ever have any false pics, maybe 5-10 out of 2000

Re: MOULTRIE GAMESPY D40 GAME CAMERA

I bought 3 I40's and right out of the box one did not turn on, other one had bad latch and third one media card would not fit in slot. It seems that quality control at factory (china) is no where to be found. Moultrie did ship me new cameras, but you would think they would have better quailty control..

Re: MOULTRIE GAMESPY D40 GAME CAMERA

I have had all the above said problems, the only one that bothers me for the $99 I spent is the plastic mounting part brok off, so I had to do some redneck engineering but overall its not bad.
Friend has the d60's and like them much better as far as batteries but he has solar chargers etc.
