I am up here drilling a well right now and cannot believe how many turkeys I have seen in the last couple of days. I have even seen them on top of hay bales.

Of course, they show up after the season. What roads are you near?

Yeah it is. When I posted I couldn't remember the name of the town up the road. It is Forestburg though.

cbump, I hunted on a place off of 1655 back closer to Alvord until last year. There were some deer, but you are right about the turkey. They were everywhere. I saw a tom with double beards while hunting one afternoon during the fall season. I was concentrating on deer and let him and the other six toms pass. I will probably never see another one.

Saw at least 10 tonight. If you are heading back into Alvord from where I am there is one field right off to the right with 5 or 6 round bales in it and they are there every evening.

Chris, if you are talking about those fields that are just outside of Alvord that are between the two big curves and down intoward that first creek going out of Alvord toward Forestburg I have seen over 100 turkeys in those fields.
That is the way I used to drive to go up to the place I hunted north of Saint Jo.

Sorry, i haven't checked this thread in a while. CHC, yep that is the place. Like clockwork, they were out every evening.
safari, they were all mature birds.
I am working out in Sonora now, drilling directly under the caverns. SOOO many birds out here also.

Thanks for the update - keep the reports coming. Especially interested in hatch/poult reports. Good widespread rain last week over most of TX turkey range..should start seeing poults soon!
