How not to treat a Taxidermist

This is for you guys looking for a Taxidermist, as well as the ones that have one they swear by.As I have said before, i was a txidermist for quite a few years before getting burned out on it. I still do it for myself and family, but the word customer is a cuss word to me. Being on that side of the fence i experienced a few things that Ill share here with the general public to help you maintain a healthy Taxidermist to Customer relationship. 1. When you ask how long it will be before your deer will be done, and the Taxidermist tells you 6-8 months, do not start calling them in 6-8 weeks just in case they got to it a little early. Leave them alone and realise you are not the only customer. 2. Just because you have had a few deer heads done by a particular taxidermist doesnt qualify you for frequent flyer miles, or discounts, its not a hobby, its how they make a liveing so pay up or keep looking. 3. When you drop an animal off with a taxidermist they normally require half deposit, so just know going in your gona need to bring some cash. Dont drop an animal off and make the guy wait a week or more for the deposit just because you know the guy and think your buds, its busines, pay up. Finally, you wont always be 100% satisfied with everything your taxidermist does for you. Sometimes skin dries weird, or cracks later around tear ducts, or the hair along the back of the neck starts to stand up a little. Most of these problems are repairable. Be honest with your taxidermist and tell them if you have a problem with a mount. DO NOT EVER start spreading around to all your hunting buddies that use that taxidermist that he doesnt know what hes doing. Word of mouth can kill a business quick, how sad when it could have been talked about and more than likely fixed. You would be suprised what a taxidermist will do to keep a customer happy, if given a chance. It has been my observation that grown men can be bigger babies than the ones currently in diapers. Be patient, leave them alone, and let em do what they do. Sk
