I'm now ready for those racoons! I've been looking at one of these for a while now. It's that in between caliber I didn't have. It's a Savage heavy barrel .17HMR model 93. I've read some great things about this model and I love the Acutrigger.
I looked at the thumbhole model and just couldn't get comfortable with it, I know some of you love it and the forearm was great but I didn't like the cheek guard, not to mention, I want something similar to my Savage 7Mag stock to practice with.
It came with the Simmons scope. I'll leave it on until I get the cash to get something better. Any suggestions? I have an OLD Tasco world class 4x12x44 on a .22 I might trade out instead.
Sorry about the quality, camera phone was full.

I got a neighborhood cat that sleeps on my truck if you need a target.

LOL. Yeah, I think I'm going to start deer hunting with it this year when I get it dialed in.

I would put a cheap lighted reticle scope on it. Im not so sure about those 300 yard shots, the wind tosses it around pretty good.

Like a true glo? I've heard some good things about a company called Meullar(spelling) and the BSA sweet 16's ahve mixed reviews. I'm not going to spend a fortune on something I won't shoot past 150 that often.

It honestly doesnt matter much since there is no recoil. You could probably expeirment. I bought a barska for mine but ended up catching a nikon on sale. Check out midway usa or sportmansguide and type in illuminated reticle.

Those are great shooters. You never know about that Simmons might suprise you. And Mueller is suppose to make a good scope that the rimfire guys really like.

I took my sweet 17 off mine and put on one of those inexpensive gun show scopes on. 6 X 24 with a lighted reticle. Works great so far. You can see whatever you shoot when the bullet hits. So far so good.

I dialed it in at our "range" on the lease and then met my my buddies for a hog run around the lease. Guess what we found? 50-60 yard head shots were now problem. I am incredibly impressed with the accuracy of this gun and round and I can live with the Simmons for a little while, but I'll have to change it up eventually.

The Cabelas pine ridge .17 or the BSA Sweet .17 are both pretty good. I have the 3x12 BSA and love the drop comp. I use it out to about 200yds. Never had to shoot beyond that, and most of the time miss anyways! Honestly, if your planning on punching paper, you need more top end to see where your hitting. On ebay you can get some pretty cheap 8x32's for your target needs.

It's obvious with the simmons scope that I will need something to bring things in a little closer. Thanks for the scope tips. I'll give those a look a look as soon as I scrape up some cash.

I've got the same model gun and love it. May end up getting a better scope on mine as well.
