father-son bonding time
      #282744 - 11/15/07 07:11 PM

Well I took my 78 year old dad out hunting,...time well spent. He didnt get any shots but i did this mornin, and if i did it right the pics should show up
Now this could be the part where i tell yall about how my custom hand made 300 win mag, with hornaday special ordered ammo with my swarsovski (sp?) scope really paid off!!
But I will tell you the truth..... My remington 7400 .270, with Federal 130 grain blue box $12 per box, and my $20 TASCO 3x9 scope, got the job done. Now he didnt drop in his tracks,.... He was about 110 yrds out, i hit him in the shoulder, and he ran 30 yards.......... CLOSER to the truck. Leaving a blood trail that a legally blind man could follow
So I sum it up like this

1. remington 7400 .270 used.............. $300
2. box of fedral ammo....................$12
3. two days spent in the woods with my dad...... priceless
4. eight point with 13.5 inside spread in e tx....bonus

and if anybody knows how to rotate the pics so u dont have to turn your head sideways, have at it and i would appreciate it

Great story Red...and great buck!! I am driving down from Denver tomorrow to spend 5 days at our place near Brady with my 72 year old dad. I look forward to it all year long (as does he). You are right, the time spent together is priceless. Taking a nice buck is just icing on the cake.
Thanks for the story and the pics. Hopefully, I can post something similar when I get back.

Please note the Cadillac gloves, provide by who?

No notes on the prowess of the gunsmith that set-up that rig either?

I see how its gonna be.

That's what it's all about. Doing a trip this weekend with my 63 yr old dad and 9 yr old son. Pops couldn't care less about shooting a deer but he loves spending time in the woods with his family. He used to tell me "The most important part of hunting is hunting for a good place to eat, hunting for a place to use the bathroom, and hunting for a place to sleep!". God, the nights I spent sleeping under a camper shell in the back of a pickup listening to him snore after filling up on BBQ in Llano or CFS in San Saba. Now those are memories...

ok ok i'll give credit where credit is due, gloves supplied by moritz chevrolet, and the remmy .270 was purchased form sig226fan, and scope as well, and ammo, all sighted in by said sig226fan that being said i did hit the deer 1" higher than i was aiming, lucky he dropped at all
