Have a few questions
      #524556 - 09/23/08 10:34 AM

My dad and step mom aquired a 6 week old half yellow lab and half golden retriever, I would assume that I could train in to hunt birds with me but was wondering if anyone had experience with this mix. Also when should I start giving basic commands.

It depends on whether the dog has the basic desire to retrieve. If so, then yes, you should be able to train it.

I started teaching my dog basic obedience commands at 6 weeks of age. I only used rewards for desired behavior (no negative reinforcement at that age). Not all dogs are the same though, so you will need to get a feel for your dog and adjust accordingly.
