I know nothing about this revolver. I got it from my grandfather. Was wondering if y'all could give me some info on it. Also, I'm pretty sure these aren't original grips, could someone point me in the right direction where to get some original correct grips. Thanks

What you have is a 4 inch barreled 38 Special M&P (Military and Police) Postwar. In 1945 S&W began the S serial number prefix at S811120 and ended in 1948 at serial number S999999. In 1957 when S&W started assigning model numbers, this firearm became known as the model 10.

I want to caution about storing it in the leather holster. It tends play havoc with the bluing. Your stocks appear to be very nice well made stag. Look for original walnut ones on ebay.

You have a wonderful handgun in great shape your grandfather left you. Hope you treasure it for many years.

if you're so inclined you can send $100 to the Smith and Wesson Historical Foundation (which has nothing to do with the gun manufacturer) and they will research your firearm and send you a very nice ornate letter giving the history of your model. It will tell you what configuration your gun left the factory, what date your gun was shipped from the factory and where it was shipped to.

If it were me, and my Grandfather put stag grips on his gun, I'd be inclined to leave the stag grips on. Cool gun.

I agree 100%. Those are not cheap plastic grips.

I might put this one in a display box with the letter from Jim Supicia.

Go buy a new one to shoot.

+100 on not leaving it in the holster.

This is a Smith & Wesson K-38 Combat Masterpiece Revolver Model 15-2 bought in I believe 1964 with original grips. And yes, Ebay is a good source for original replacements. Gun shows as well, but in the time between shows you'll likely find what you're looking for on EBAY. There is also a very good Smith & Wesson Forum. It was the first forum I got on so that I could get some help dating the .22 you see in the pic. It's a 40's era bought new by my Grand Dad.
