My sons have been part of the 4-h rifle team this past year and enjoyed it. considering getting them their own rifles so they can continue to shoot more during off season and fine tune it to their own tastes. Presently they use the club rifles which have been great but are shared with many kids and not available during the off season part of the year. The club shoots a lot of aunschutz 1903 style guns....iv'e looked for these but are kind of hard to find and the ones i have found are really expensive. savage makes some of the mark II rifles but i find i would either want to change the stock or if i got a better stock on the mark II TR....it doesn't come with the sights and would have to be gun-smithed afterward. I THINK i could dress up one of the savages which are more readily available for maybe $1000-1500 total per gun? has anyone ever done anything like this? any insight?

someone in another post mentions the CZ457 at-one.....indicates it comes without sights....comes with "integral 11mm dovetail"....what does that mean? My sons shoot 4h rifle competition 50ft iron sights. I've been looking and thinking about a competition style gun that i could put the aunschutz target peeps on. which as i understand are 11mm? i think.

gun also says its supperssor ready which i don't think does me any good.

Look on Gun Broker at the Remington, Winchester, Kimber offerings with peep sights. There are quite a few to choose from. Pick "bolt action Rifles" then where it asks for "caliber" click on .22lr

Have you considered reaching out to Mikael Vesperman of S&S precision in Denton? He and his dad Sr run several 22lr competitions and can definitely steer you in the right direction.

Do they do 3 preposition competitions? Because if they don't, they may not know what all they don't know. 3p is a lot different than what most people around here tend to shoot. I asked because I looked at their website and saw nothing about three position, or anything that resembled a three position rifle. But maybe they just didn't have no pictures of that

He wants sling and glove competitions, not NRL.

Contact the NRA, they can put you in the right direction. Also check out Terrel Gun Club and Panola County Gun Club.

They still will know what rifles shoot the best. Shape of stock with iron sites is an easy bridge for them to cross.

Find a Kimber model 82. Most come with sights. They usually cost around 7 to 8 hundred

It would help to know the size of the shooter. A Kimber is a great gun but a bit heavy

This is a very good observation. A lot of 3p rifles come super adjustable and the more adjustable the better. Especially for a younger shooter
