I think Santa is going to bring me a Marlin Lever Action Rifle. I like the stainless models. I don't really have a hunting trip in mind for the rifle, it's just something I've always wanted.

So what's the best Marlin SS lever action rifle? I'm looking at the 336SS and the XLR. Thoughts? I don't really know that much about them but researching a bit. Thought I'd get some feedback on THF!

If memory serves me correctly, the XLR has a half magazine. I prefer full length mag on a levergun, so I would go with the 336.

444 in any configuration. Something about shooting a 444 just makes you smile.

Thanks for all the posts. I appreciate the input. Was there a change to Marlin in some way (Maybe ownership or something) after 2007? Any particular reason that 2007 date's been singled out?

Never mind. I see Remington acquired them in 2007.

Remington purchased them. The old marlin guns have a proof mark on the barrel of JM. The Remington proof mark is rep. The main issue with the Remington guns is cosmetic. Fit and finish was horrible at first. They have improved though.

I've got a few Marlins. I like the SS models, but most of them come with laminate wood, which I don't care for. I've got a SS 1894 in 44 mag with a wood stock that I really like. Here is a photo from when I bought it a few years ago from another THF member.

Nice dr_pepp. I definitely want the stainless but would prefer real wood too.

Thanks. If you want stainless and wood, I think your options may be limited. I've also got a 336SS.
