I just happen to have a bunch of ballistic grade Kevlar and Twaron fabric. Is it possible to make a homemade bullet proof vest? Or somewhere I can get designs or a how to?

Why would you want one?

No reason in particular. I got all the fabric free. Just wondering if I could do it.It's either that or try to sell all the fabric.....

You could definitely make one. The question is, how are you going to test it and will you video it?

I don't really have a use for a vest, so I would just make it and hope that zombies can't bite thru it when the apocalypse comes grin

Kevlar fiber breaks down over time, I think LEO have to buy new vests every 5-7 yrs. I think your spinning your wheels....

Yeah probably. I almost wish I was onto boat making, I'll bet it would for some good reinforcement.

Good thing I'm not dumb enough to want to test it on myself. I'll prolly just try to sell the fabric.

my best friend is a correctional officer back home in Nevada, at the time the prison did not issue kevlar vests, even though he worked at a maximum sec prison. So he bought it with the intentions of making several stab resistant vests for himself and his officer buddies. im not believe he bought all teh fabric from ebay. not 100% sure though.

If you made it and you trust it go for it!!!!!

It dosen't have to please anyone but you!! If I thought I needed one, I would go and buy the best that money could buy.

I am not a kevlar expert, but I think I would save it and use it in place of fiberglass cloth to make repairs on something that cracks, for example the hood on my John Deere tractor that is cracked.

I am assuming you can use it with the same fiberglasee resin that is used with fiberglass. Need to make any boat repairs, etc?

I always sweat under mine when I wear it whether it's hot or not. They don't breathe at all.

We replace our vests every 5 years. Kevlar is ballistic resistant. However, it will not stop stabbing from edged weapons. It can help and it will resisting slashing, but something like an ice pick will penetrate it. Also, it won't stop most rifle cartridges.
