Hey guys. I just joined the forum to find a Texas hunt. I would like to test my hunting skills by chasing Aoudad through some nasty mountainous terrain.

Where is the best place to find free roaming big Aoudad in Texas? This animal will go on my wall, so I want to find a keeper! I don't want to break the bank, so any decent discount ranch/guide recommendations are appreciated. I live and hunt in the #1 and #2 big buck (Whitetail) counties in Ohio, so I would be willing to trade a hunt. I know Ohio laws/regs inside and out, so I will make sure your hunt is a breeze. I get a little intimidated thinking about hunting in another state :-) My brother will accompany me on the hunt to Texas, and we are up for any time during the next 8 months.

Thoughts?

Nick

PS - I don't know anything about exotic game, so feel free to recommend any other species. I just want to try something different, and the Aoudad caught my eye. Don't want to be inside a fence.

We have some aoudad brutes on our low fenced ranch that I lease. Me and my hunting partner might be interested in working a trade for archery whitetail in Ohio. They can be very challenging to hunt and harvest. Our largest one harvested last year was a 34" brute that weighed 350lbs plus. Just checked my draw for Kansas whitetail archery and was successful, whoo hoo!

We have monster whitetail where I live, so we are definitely blessed! People shoot big deer every year, but 182 1/2" was the biggest that one of my friends harvested. He shot it with a muzzleloader 2 or 3 years ago. The closest public hunting land was ranked #1 for big buck archery hunting by ESPN.com Outdoors last year. The place has small cabins (which are nice) for rent on the cheap. I own a small honeyhole as well, which I visit once a year.

Archery is your best bet in Ohio, since gun season is shotgun or muzzleloader, and all together, only lasts for about 2 weeks. Archery season is about 4 months long (Late Sept to Early Feb).

Let me know,
Nick

PS - I am 32...and my brother is 30. We are both Christians, very outgoing, respectful and love to hunt!

Yep. We have the five main ingredients for raising HUGE deer in the wild.

#1 - TONS of corn and soybeans everywhere
#2 - Lots of natural habitat
#3 - Great genetics
#4 - Stringent hunting regs. No matter who you are, you can only harvest ONE buck a year. This ensures that the small bucks get a chance to grow big. If you shoot little bucks in Ohio, you forfeit your chance to shoot the big bucks.
#5 - No rifles, and limited gun hunting season.
