Here he is. I don't know what happened to him or how he gets around, but he seems to be making it.

We had a three legged deer on a lease once. We were only there for 2 years but had pictures of him both years . Only saw him on the game camera though.

Getting around he will be fine, deer truly are some amazing critters. When the rut rolls around though he will be at a disadvantage in fights.

Watch him. May grow a monster rack to compensate for the missing leg.

I remember visiting my aunt on her place between Junction & Mason in the early '70's. I couldn't have been much more than 4. I remember playing playing in her front yard late in the afternoon when two does and a really nice, 3 legged 10 point topped a rise just west of the house and just stood there...staring towards the house. Of course, I ran into the house to tell everyone about this HUGE buck that was outside. I remember saying, "I wonder what happened to that deer's leg?" She said, "I'm sure Scrappy knows" as she pointed at her dog, busily gnawing on a fresh, furry deer leg. I'm sure I stood there, slack-jawed & horrified. Every time I see a three legged deer, I think back to that poor old 10 pointer staring at the house...that had the dog....that had his leg......

Yes, I don't know what happened to him, but it somewhat looks as a old injury. The shoulder looks like it is healed & shrunk up. He looks healthy though, and must get around fine. It will be interesting if he shows up next fall, since he just appeared here the end of february. Usually, when a deer is injured the opposite side antler is deformed, which is not the case here.

Years ago when I hunted coonhounds, the dogs once caught a racoon that was missing both back legs above the elbow & walked balancing on it's 2 front feet. That was one tough animal.

I'd say, even if he does grow a huge rack in the future, that he gets a pass just for being tough enough to survive.

Yeah but imagine the scratches that poor doe gets when he finally wins a fight rofl

I see the hip bones of that guy, and his neck is really small. He looks a little wasted right now, but hopefully as forage becomes more available, he will beef up a bit.

I've seen lots of 3-legged farm dogs that you couldn't tell they only had three legs until they stopped running. Nature is amazing and animals are all tough. He may have a fun rut season, though. One end's writing a check the other end can't pay.

give him some protein he will do better next year.
