Hey guys, wanted to let you know how my son's youth hunting weekend went. If you remember he was bothered by the noise of his 243. We went out Saturday evening. About 640 pm a group of does come out at 100 yards. He went nuts, I thought both of us were going to have a heart attack.

Anyway, we get the gun out the window. I am trying to tell him to relax, take a breath, steady, gently squeeze, etc... well about rela..... boom, he shoots. Now I am trying to look through the spotting scope, scares me to death, anyway he hits right under the doe. Now two of the doe turn and run about 25 yards straight towards us. He puts another bullet in and says, "can I try again?" I laugh, and say ok, sure. He aims, for what seems like 5 minutes, then pulls the trigger. The doe drops in her tracks. I am not sure what happened next, he was hollering, "I got her, I got her, as he was trying to get out the door. I got him settled down, and we waited for about 20 minutes, I was going to have to hold him down for any more time. We got her loaded, dressed, tagged, and in the truck. He never stopped telling me what happened all the way back home. I tell him he forgot his earplugs and was it loud? He said "I don't remember, all I could hear was my heart." I laugh some more. I don't care how long I hunt or how big a deer I ever kill, no hunt will ever match this.

The next day he was ready to go for a buck, we hunted Sunday, but did not see one. Glad to be able to share that with you guys. It was great.

That's good, and tell him congrats. I think I mentioned he would not hear anything and feel nothing.

Thanks for the report, Sniper.270. Sounds like you've got another hunting partner that'll soon tell you how to hunt.

Congrats to both of you.

Sniper that sounds like an awesome hunt. It will sure be a memory both you and him will hold for a lifetime. I still remember my first deer and my Grandma helping me gut it!

The wife and I will be married 1yr in Dec. and we’re planning to start on the Okiebug Hunting / Fishing team next year. I’ll be joyful of either a boy or girl, but I have told the wife I feel sorry if it’s a girl because I’ll make her the biggest tomboy ya ever saw!!

Awesome hunt!! I don't think my wife knows what she is in for when our little one is old enough to get excited about the outdoors like I am!

Okiebug,
My wife and I were married 2 years in October. We had said that we would wait for at least 4 years. Well, I found out very quickly that God had other plans. We found out a year ago last Saturday that we were expecting. We now have a 4 month old baby girl that has already got Daddy wrapped around her little finger. . I am like you though, she is going to be one heck of a tomboy.

Sniper,
Congrats to you and your son on such an awesome opportunity. May there be many more in the years to come. I hope that you and your son have the kind of relationship that my dad and I still have. We still hunt together all that we can. I just have to make sure that my wife understands because she loves to hunt with me as well.

take care and God Bless.

Congrats! It doesn't get much better than that!

KS & Okiebug,
My girl just turned 2. She came home from the hosp. wearing camo. I can't wait to get her in the deer stand!

Fantastic!
Write this story down somewhere, the days before the hunt with him compliaining about the noise..then the hunt itself and his exultation and totally forgetting about the noise ...and save it because you and he have a cherished memory that should be preserved. Keep it fun and you will have a hunting partner for life..congratulations.
