The story behind this pig is about as wild as anything I have ever experienced. First off I had never seen this pig before or got any game cam pics of him so I guess this was just a “right place right time” kinda deal. I got to my stand about 30 minutes before daylight just like I always do. I don’t bow hunt so I just took my AR15 with me just in case I saw a Bobcat, Yote, Pig, Chupa, etc. Well within minutes of getting in the ground box blind I saw my game camera flash but didn’t think nothing of it. I figured it was just coons or maybe a deer showing up early. So as I was trying to make out the feeder through the binos in the dark I could tell there was a dark object there and figured it was a pig. It was still about 30 minutes before I could see through the scope though but as time passed he made his way up towards my location and I could make out his silhouette against the white rock background (quality glass really came into play on this one). So I clicked off the safety and put the crosshairs right on his shoulder hoping to drop him in his tracks so I wouldn’t have to look for him in the dark. Sure enough the shot dropped him right there. I got out of the stand and drug him a little ways towards a little cedar bush near the stand so hopefully any deer that showed up wouldn’t see him, then I got back in the box and waited for day light. About 30 mintues later the lifeless pig somehow came back to life and tried to take off on 3 legs wtf. During his attempt at escape he crashed into my box blind knocking it off the 2x4’s I had it siting on and the stand dang near knocked me out of my chair. My only choice was to yank my Glock 33 from its holster and stick my arm out the window and shoot as he went crashing by my front window. The first shot hit him at the base of the neck and dropped him, and as he tried to get up again I somehow managed to put another round right in his forehead without even aiming (pure luck but I was proud of that one happy3). That shot was all he could take and he was down for good this time. slinger

This was the first time I have ever shot the famed TSX bullet at any critter and at first I was very impressed with how it folded a hog that size right in its tracks. 30 minutes later when he got up and just about knocked me and my stand over I was left wondering how something like this could happen with good shot placement and with what is suppose to be a top notch bullet.

Now before all the TSX fans start jumping to the defense of the bullet let me say that I am not passing judgment on the bullet based on just one experience………..however I do think that the old saying holds true about “you never get a second chance to make a first impression”. I will just say that this one left me scratching my head.

I have no idea how much the pig weighed but it is probably the second biggest I have ever killed and I guess I will take that into consideration when judging the performance of such a little bullet (55 grain) on such a big animal.

Anyway I told yall I would give yall an update when I was able to run a 223 TSX through a pig and there you have it. I gave a half hearted attempt to try and recover the bullet from the pig but came up empty. I know it didn’t exit but I wasn’t going to spend all day lookin for it. I will give them another chance but next time the results better be a little bit different.

Thank God I was packin Speer Gold Dots in the Glock. They never let me down!!! grin stir

Here are a couple of pics of the beast.

Here is a pic from inside my box. As you can see he fell about 2’ outside my left window.

Here is the shot to the head that put him down for good.

Here is the shot to the front shoulder with the TSX that sent him for a 30 minute nap. No tellin how many hogs I have hit in that same spot and it always resulted in a dead piggy. It should have been a fatal hit plain and simple.

ear hole with the 223. My grandad shot one twice in the neck with a 400 pound sow in one of the traps, we came back the next morning and she had moved about 100 yards.

As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind...Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks--Thomas Jefferson

It's a good thing you were in the blind when he "woke up". He was probably trying to kill you.

I like the comment about cleaning out the blind. Since you mentioned "knocking the blind around", I was curious about a picture of it.

Ha! I dont even think he knew what he was doing. He was just blindly crashing through the brush untill he crashed into my box.

I see a 308 AR in my future though. happy3

I dont have a picture handy. Its just a 4x4 ground box that I have siting on 2x4's to keep it up off the ground. Its not anchored to the ground or anything.

Crazy story. Give the round another shot, literally. The .223 is a smaller round and that was a huge pig.
