Good luck. Axis that are truly over 38" are as rare as hens' teeth. Most people who say they have 38"+ Axis....actually have 32-34" Axis. Best of luck in your search.

Those are pretty hard to find but I know enough he better bring a checkbook with plenty in the account. It takes a truly special animal to hit 38”s. If he ends up finding one we need pics of it,,,

Yes Don K, that was us. Haven’t seen one come close to 38” since (on us), but it was exciting. We caught him & sold him at auction for $14k almost 4 years ago before the Axis market really went crazy. If you can guarantee 38”+, I would expect to pay $20k+ these days. It has all exploded the last year or two

That's Josh Brown holding that deer. He works at Rustic Reminders where I get my deer mounted. I assure you, that buck is 40". I've been hunting and guiding axis since early 2000's and I've laid eyes on TWO 40" deer. One from Junction and that one. Its legit.

Who trapped/darted him? I remember that buck very well. Loved watching the auction run wild.

That was me. Caught him in about a 2 acre trap behind my dads house, darted him out that next night. I caught a 34 with him & put him in our high fence. Never shot him, but he’s not in there anymore. Freeze must have got him. According to a guy who knows who bought him, the 38” that I sold actually died this spring (they think from pneumonia). Still got plenty of breeding from him, he never made 40” from what I was told.

Processors often cut off the lower portion of the legs when hanging for skinning. Makes hanging them higher easier etc. I bet his lower right leg is missing also but is out of frame. I wouldn't consider that evidence of photoshop as its fairly common practice.
