30th Birthday Hunt

30th Birthday Hunt - 01/30/17 05:38 PM

In the next couple of months I'll be celebrating my 30th birthday, and am looking to do a big game hunt. It's been awhile since my last exotic hunt, as prices have increased, and I got married and began having kids which is where I focus my weekends.

I'm looking to spend $2,500 on the animal alone, and then whatever it cost for lodging, guide services etc. Ideally would find a place within 3 1/2 hours of DFW, but will definitely travel further for a great opportunity. I was hoping to get a 2 or 3 year Buffalo bull, if anyone has one for that price range. However, I'm also open to ANYTHING else out there that would be considered a good trophy, and has quality meat.

Thanks for any opportunities that you guys have and can share out there. I'm extremely excited about this, and looking forward to starting off my 30's right.

Feel free to PM me as well if that's better.

Little further distance to travel but a big Nilgai Bull would be a great birthday present. $2950 includes everything including lodging, meals, and guides.

That's a great animal. How's their meat taste?

About as good as it gets. Haven't found anything that I would say is better but everyone has their own preferences.

I saw one advertised by Ryan Longer of Longer Outdoors. Posted on the Exotic Hunting in Texas. Here is what he wrote:

"Bull Bison-$2500. I don't know how much he weighs. He's big, he's nice, he has a lot of meat. Kerrville area. Night of meals and lodging included, as well as skinning and quartering"

Here is the link to his website

I will second e Nilgai hunt...the meat is great, the hunt can be done in a 1 1/2 days and it makes a great looking mount if a good dark bull is taken. Plus in the spring South Texas is a pretty place...

The next option is a little more than you want to spend but is an adventure--further than you want to drive--but again an adventure...it's a West Texas Aoudad hunt. For $3500-$4500 you will have as close to a desert sheep hunt is you will get-without drawing a tag or spending $50,000 +... I'm not fond of the meat, but e trophy you will put on the wall--you will feel you earned.

I was hunting mule deer this year in west texas. We saw a nice 32+ in ram on a ridge...took everything I had in me to stay on task and continue to hunt mule deer...welcome to 30...I passed that mark 10 years ago...

I just went through the same delema last month when I turned 40. I settled on a Nilgai and a thermal hog hunt. I have no regrets. One of the funnest hunts I have ever done!

In that price range, I don't think you are going to beat chasing a big nilgai. It's a blast. You could look at axis too. Since you mentioned quality meat, aoudad is out.

That Mouflon is a tough one because I do love hunting Rams, and the mouflon that I shot (when I was younger) is definitely not a pure mouflon and I paid more for a lesser quality.

I have a bunch of bison. I can do a 2-3 yr old bull for 2500.

But, you'll have to buy some Spider-Man boots to hunt them...
