Young Cancer Survivor Gets Her Blackbuck

I have volunteered with Texas Outdoor C.H.I.L.D. for many years. This weekend I have the pleasure of hosting 14 yr old Hiromi Avila from San Antonio on behalf of TOC. We hunted with Double Arrow Bow hunting in Harwood, Texas which is owned and operated by Curtis Schramm. As you can see in the pictures, she harvested a beautiful blackbuck antelope. This was one of the toughest hunts of this nature that I have ever been blessed to host. Hiromi last her left leg from the hip down to cancer several years ago so hunting was limited as she is required to shoot from only a sitting position. But despite the fog, freezing temperatures and swirling winds she was able to harvest the beautiful blackbuck in the pictures below. And Curtis went way beyond in order to make sure that Hiromi, her little brother and father had a great time. Thanks go out to Curtis and his family.

That hunt was one of the most rewarding hunts I have ever done. I hope to have Texas Outdoor Child out to our place again in the future. This hunt left me with a very good feeling to get it completed for her. For a first time hunter, she learned a lot and taught me a lot about having patience.

I have pictures of that blackbuck from when I hunted there earlier this year. It is a very pretty animal. I love the coloring of it.
